The company "Construction Trading House "Petrovich" using BI Consult implemented the system of the business analysis QlikView Business Discovery. It allowed to minimize time of obtaining operational analytical information and to optimize the speed of acceptance of management decisions.
About the Customer
The trading House Petrovich (STD Petrovich LLC) is the private Russian company existing since 1995 and specializing in trade in construction goods in commercial and mass segments. STD "Petrovich" possesses network of twelve construction trade bases in St. Petersburg, to the Leningrad Region and Karelia, scrap metal dealer, production sites. In addition to Petrovich retail network, the company develops as independently, and on a franchize Uroven retail network. The range of Petrovich trading house exceeds 7000 names.The main floor and warehouse spaces of STD "Petrovich" are located in North-West Region, however the company carries out active expansion to regions: in March, 2014 the base in Tver, the first outside the Northwestern Federal District was open. Also in plans of the company opening in the closest two years of outlets in Vologda and Cherepovets.
Project Tasks
Successful development of the existing business of STD "Petrovich" and exit to new regions it has to be supported with effective purchasing policy which cornerstone the operational and weighed management decisions should be. For their acceptance top managers need to own the complete volume of operational and exact information on all outlets and warehouse spaces.
"In the course of growth of our company and increase in turnovers we faced a number of problems, – Andrey Matveev, the CIO of the company "Tells construction trading House "Petrovich". – For acceptance of the right decisions for our management it was necessary wide the sales analyst, to a remaining balance in warehouses and so on, however it was quite difficult to get her".
Besides, on collecting, processing and receiving necessary analytics a lot of time left that slowed down work of top managers and created obstacles for increase in business performance in general. The decision on search of tools which could minimize time of obtaining analytical information was as a result made and besides it is essential to expand possibilities of the business intelligence which is available for us.
In general tasks which were set for an analytical system it is possible to describe as follows:

Choosing a Solution
For obtaining analytical information in STD "Petrovich" used possibilities of 1C – completion of this system and was considered as one of candidate solutions of assigned tasks. However the complex structure led to long terms of development of new reports that led to failure from use of this system for the business analysis.
To the new BI tool high requirements were imposed. It not only had to give new opportunities for a business intelligence, but also have the high speed of development of new applications and reports and scalability of the decision without loss of processing speed that was caused by need of accounting of intensive growth of the company.
The QlikView Business Discovery platform was as a result selected. The partner in implementation was the consulting company BI Consult, whose profound knowledge of requirements of retailers and distribution, existence of industry solution and extensive experience in setting and the organization of analytics in the large companies allowed STD "Petrovich" to gain the maximum effect of system implementation.
Project Progress
The project on implementation of the platform of the business analysis of QlikView Business Discovery started in October, 2012: in a month the application using which top management of the company could receive key indicators in an evident type was created. In November, 2012 the application for the analysis of warehouse and logistic activity was created, and during the period from December, 2012 to January, 2013 the analytics for marketing department was implemented.
The created applications allow to analyze sales, remaining balance and movements of goods on all branches and bases. So, specialists of STD "Petrovich" received tools for the analysis of sales in such cuts as goods, regions, divisions, clients, managers, sales channels, payment methods. Applications allow to analyze activity of SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) and clients taking into account dynamically changing range, charge and "cashing in" of bonus points by goods and clients, sales on new positions and also to carry out by ABC-XYZ the analysis, contrastive analysis in time, cross-sellings and the analysis of a consumer basket.
Applications for the analysis of a remaining balance allows to see a remaining balance in different cuts – for the beginning and for the end of the set period, quantity of illiquid goods in warehouses and also to loudspeaker of a remaining balance on goods and warehouses, including in comparison with normative indicators. Besides, opportunities for the analysis of movements of goods between warehouses and the analysis of deliveries of the absent and exclusive goods are created.
During implementation transaction data on activity of the company for 3 years whose total information volume was about 400 GB are loaded into a system. At the same time data from two systems of 1C, one of which contained information on the St. Petersburg trade and warehousing capacit, and the second – on regional were consolidated. Now 45 employees at the central office of the company use the solution.
Implementation Results
In a project deliverable time of obtaining necessary information by top managers of the company decreased by 40-50%, and terms of development of reports – for 65-70%. At the same time using QlikView it was succeeded to minimize terms of preparation of necessary set of information for the further analysis – this process began to take 60% less time.
Besides, implementation of a BI system allowed to provide efficiency of monitoring of execution of the set standards and to reveal the liquid range.

Project Development
STD "Petrovich" do not intend to be satisfied with what has already been achieved. In particular, development of functionality of a system for needs of marketing department will be continued. Also the application for the direction of category management will be created, the analysis of a management system on KPI, efficiency analysis of the loyalty program and job analysis of the sales department in work with key clients and the directions of wholesales will be implemented. Besides, it is going to provide the maximum detailing of the analytics concerning work of logistic department in general and the directions of the goods deliveries in particular.
