Far Eastern Generating Company carries out virtualization of IT infrastructure

The Softline company implemented the project on virtualization of infrastructure of JSC Far Eastern Generating Company on the platform of the solutions Microsoft System Center therefore the reliable, modern, flexible infrastructure ensuring smooth operation of all information services of the enterprise is organized reported on April 17, 2013 the Far East representative office of Softline.

In essence

"Essential costs for support of infrastructure (purchase of the additional hardware, expenses on the electric power and cooling) and difficulties in management of the available physical and virtual environments because of a large number of servers led to the decision on creation of the virtualized data processing center based on System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2", – Anatoly Dorofeyev, the deputy chief of department of information technologies of JSC DGK noted.

Expectations

The project of upgrade of IT infrastructure, its transfer to virtual environment should increase utilization coefficient of servers, allow manage effectively workload, to reduce a downtime of servers, to reduce the total costs of service, to ensure smooth operation of information services and safety of data.

Job

During the project from several stages, specialists of Softline booked audit of the existing infrastructure, measurements of performance of its principal components. On their basis the system design is executed and candidates for consolidation are defined. After testing of the solution migration of servers on the Microsoft platform is carried out, in the single console of management all separately used virtualization servers are integrated.

Thus, for the customer three projects are implemented: migration of users and workstations in a uniform directory service of the Active Directory, migration of the separate mail systems in the single Exchange 2010 mail system is made, the dynamic data processing center is organized.

"During the project we managed to achieve increase in utilization coefficient of servers and to lower equipment costs due to consolidation of several systems within one hardware platform. Thanks to transfer of virtual servers there was an opportunity to perform service of servers without failures and to maintain business continuity in case of accident. The unified tool which is switched on in Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 allowed to manage the solutions on virtualization created both by Microsoft corporation, and third-party producers that excludes problems of integration of the separate systems, – Vladimir Solovyov, the director of management of services in regions Siberia and the Far East emphasized Softline companies. – As additional support services in training of technical specialists were rendered".
