Teradata Intelligent Memory

Product
Developers: Teradata
Date of the premiere of the system: May, 2013
Technology: DBMS

The Teradata company announced the Teradata Intelligent Memory database entirely processing information in RAM in May, 2013. Allegedly, she uses memory, than SAP HANA and other similar solutions more rationally. It is reached using the mechanism which "intellectually" selects the most demanded ("hot") data and in advance places them in memory for processing. Teradata says that HANA and other systems deprived of the similar mechanism cost much to the enterprises too as RAM still is about 80 times more expensive, than hard drives.

In addition to the "smart" mechanism of data loading in memory in Intelligent Memory some more technologies of sorting of information on demand, for example, of Teradata Virtual Storage which quickly automatically moves "colder" (low-used) data on appropriate level of storage — solid state drives or hard drives are used.

As a result, allegedly, requests to data are executed quicker, but it is required to RAM less, than to other similar systems.
