Visible and real costs for printing
2016
The Quocirca analytical company announced in August, 2016 results of a research of global market of outsourcing of printing (MPS – Managed Printing Services) within which Chief information officers of 200 companies from the different countries were polled, and provided top trends of development [1].
The world market of MPS remains rather stable: services in outsourcing of printing are used by most the polled organizations from which 45% use them more than 5 years. Growth of interest in MPS of business companies with an average amount of business (Midmarket) is demonstrative: the companies expect growth of budgets on MPS for 54%, in comparison with 47% in the big companies. At the same time respondents point to average cost reduction for 23%, and 76% of the companies saved up to 30% of means of the cost of operation of the printing park for last year.
Xerox, HP, Ricoh (Rico Rus), Lexmark, Canon and Konica Minolta treat market leaders on classification of Quocirca, and among strong players researchers note Samsung, Kyocera, Sharp and Toshiba. In spite of the fact that most customer companies use the mixed park of devices, 70% from them plan transition to a uniform brand. It will lead to toughening of competitive struggle in the market in the future.
In spite of the fact that a basic reason for transition to MPS - requirement of cost reduction, customers pay attention and to other factors. So, security became one of MPS contract key performance indicators: the number of the clients interested in information security support of printing increased for the last year from 75% up to 81%. It is connected with growth of date leaks – in 2016 announced them to 61% of the organizations.
At the same time the companies noted that there is a certain discrepancy between expectations of customers from use of MPS services and real effectiveness of projects. While about 80% of the polled organizations implemented MPS, only 27% from them are completely happy with the supplier, and 30% of the companies are going it to replace.
There is a number of the MPS elements, significant for clients, which are noted by all respondents of the company. So, the price, security and service are in the top three the most popular requests from customers. Nevertheless, requirements to the MPS contract differ depending on the size of the company of the organization: cost reduction is estimated as the most significant factor among large business whereas medium business gives preference to predictability of expenses. Considering the list of significant elements when choosing the contract, one may say, that requirements to MPS, in a range of the rendered services, bring closer it to BPO – business process outsourcing.
If earlier more mature MPS providers with the developed infrastructure, optimization of devices and providing high-quality services had competitive advantage, then now successful suppliers will become those companies which will be able to overcome a gap between paper and digital mediums and to create the strategic road map for transformation of business of the client, note in Konica Minolta.
2013
At the beginning of May, 2013 the Quocirca analytical company provided the vision of the world market of services of integrated management of printing (Managed Printed Services, MPS) and ways of its development. The main thing that was noted by researchers — on a new round of the development management of printing can have significant effect on business of clients in general. The last will not be content with expense reduction on printing any more, and will begin to expect from service providers of new technologies, implementation at them the best industry the practician, "adjustment" of solutions under their specific requirements.[2]
At the same time to the market is where to grow — until only 20% of the companies already implemented MPS and 44% are going to make it in the next few years. So by 2015 only a half of potential consumers will make the choice.
So far the large companies are most interested in services of MPS. Poll among entrusted the systems to printing to external contractors showed that from the large organizations with number of workers more than 10 thousand 76% use services of MPS providers more than three years. From the "average" companies with the state of 5-10 thousand employees only of such 67%, and in "small" where 1-5 thousand work — 41%.
All market leaders of MPS (Xerox, Hewlett-Packard, Ricoh (Rico Rus), Canon (Canon Ru) and Lexmark) and their closest persecutors (Konica Minolta and Kyocera) as consider in Quocirca, have the strengths. So, Xerox, according to researchers, is in the lead on the width of the offer, HP — on "depth", in particular its service is called ePrint unique. Ricoh received a praise for the aspiration to offer document management services (and not just printing), at Canon strong technologies are mentioned, Lexmark has a portfolio of industrial solutions. Konica Minolta has strong positions in the market of small enterprises, Kyocera via the channel not unsuccessfully promotes services in document management.
Despite popularity of a statement "the tablet replaces paper", demand for the solutions giving a printability from mobile devices steadily grows (especially in connection with distribution of the concept of BYOD meaning that the employee will work from own device, and IT services will provide for this purpose all conditions). According to Quocirca, 20% of the organizations already included sotvetstvuyushchy points in service provision agreements of management of printing, and another 44% are going to make it. In response to demand growth a number of providers of services created cloud services which allow to perform printing from any platforms, including — mobile. The large companies are in the lead in implementation of such solutions — 27% already have the relevant decisions and 15% look for suitable. Medium-sized companies have these indicators of 21 and 8%, at small — 13 and 15%.
At the same time, naturally, the role of security protections grows — hard copies still remain one of the main channels of information leak of different degree of privacy. As believe in Quocirca, points on information security support in printing process will become indispensable components of contracts. In addition, such control over printing processes will allow to save on paper and a toner. Medium-sized companies which 74% entered point on data protection to MPS contracts are in the lead. "Large" clients, perhaps, are not so circumspect (66%) or maybe at them and is to a lump to deal with security concerns. "Small" clients do not pay so much attention of security — only 42% made to provider relevant requirements.
