In July, 2013 in MTS the large-scale project of virtualization of jobs of employees (VDI) within which the operator is going to transfer step by step computing resources more than from 90% of the PC for servers in data processing centers in all macroregions started.
As explained TAdviser in MTS, in absolute measures it makes about 28 thousand jobs of employees in Russia, and for data storage the company is going to use own data centers.
As server capacities it is going to use diskless a blade servers, the data storage of the average level connected to arrays. As the broker for access to virtual desktops software of Citrix XenDesktop Platinum, and as a hypervisor -the solution VMware vSphere Desktop will be used.
It is going to complete the project in 2017. At its first stage for access to virtual work places the operating PCs, and further, in process of their planned replacement will be used, "thin clients" - the small devices which do not have own computing powers and connected to the general server through a local network will be set.
Employees will be able to get access to the virtual desktop with all individual preferences via secure channels not only from a workplace, but also from own notebook, the tablet or the smartphone.
According to MTS, the general investments in the project will make about $12 million. Upon completion of the project the operator expects to save annually up to $3 million due to use of cloud infrastructure.
"Except reliability of data storage and obvious economic effect project implementation of VDI will allow to use more effectively working time of our employees", - the vice president of MTS for IT saysFrédéric Vanostchouyz.
MTS also reported to TAdviser that as integrator within the project the Softline company acts. The working group responsible for integration is created also within the operator.
