Biography

Elizabeth Nikolaevna Osetinskaya was born on May 3, 1977 in Moscow. Her father, Nikolay Iosifovich Osetinsky, taught more than thirty years at Institute of oil and gas of Gubkin.

In 1994 ended gymnasium No. 1543 in the southwest of Moscow, and in 1998 became the graduate of economics department of MSU.

From 1995 to 1997, during study at the university, Ossetian worked as the correspondent of RosBusinessConsulting news agency, in 1997 — 1999 was a correspondent of economic department, the observer of the Segodnya newspaper and also wrote for the Itogi magazine.

1999-2011: Vedomosti

In November, 1999, in two months after creation of the Vedomosti newspaper, Ossetian passed to work into this edition. In May, 2000 she was appointed the deputy editor of department Industries/energy resources and in 2001 headed it. In May, 2002 Ossetian became the deputy chief editor of Vedomosti, in this quality supervised the Companies and Markets block.

In September, 2004 Ossetian it was appointed the managing director of the Vedomosti newspaper. On a media information when her girlfriend Tatyana Lysova was on a maternity leave (till May, 2005), Ossetian substituted her on a post of the Chief Editor of the edition.

In 2005 Ossetian gained the diploma of MVA of the joint program of Academy of National Economy and Kingston university. According to Tatyana Lysova, in the thesis Ossetian considered a question whether deterioration in a situation with freedom of speech in the country "profitability of newspaper case" affects. "She conducted a research, it seems as it turns out that does not influence" — Lysova reported.

The press wrote about work Ossetian on radio and television. In the spring of 2005 it began to keep the Big Patrol program — the joint project of Echo of Moscow and Vedomosti radio station. In the fall of 2005 Ossetian "The real policy" on NTV under the alias "Mrs. Karand'Ash" acted as one of experts in transfer of the political scientist Gleb Pavlovsky. In it it — "all in pink, at a transparent table" — summed up the economic results of week. Transfer was criticized in the press, and the opposition movement "We" even devoted it a protest action, claiming that creators of "Real policy" "try to suppress democracy and to impose to TV viewers the Kremlin cult". However participated in the Ossetian project not for long, according to media, having left it by December, 2005. In 2007 the coauthor of transfer Maxim Kononenko explained leaving Ossetian of the program: according to him, Vedomosti did not want that the journalist became the face of the newspaper on television. At the same time Kononenko directly specified in the blog that Lysova prohibited to participate in the Real Policy program Ossetian personally.

From March, 2007 to February, 2010 Ossetian was the Chief Editor of the Vedomosti newspaper. At this position it replaced Lysova who became the managing director of Business News Media Ltd, the publisher of Vedomosti and the Smart Money magazine (it is closed in May, 2009).

In November, 2009 the conflict between the Vedomosti newspaper and RUSAL company of Oleg Deripaska erupted. The newspaper which editorial office headed Ossetian published the data confirming losses of the company in 5.98 billion dollars for 2008 and 720 million dollars for the first half of 2009. According to lawyers of RUSAL, these data contained a trade secret, and their disclosure was illegal, Ossetian said that data were obtained in absolutely legal way. According to her, employees of the newspaper were exposed to pressure: lawyers demanded from them disclosure of sources of information in spite of the fact that the law on media directly prohibits journalists to do it and also suggested in general to stop publishing materials about business of RUSAL. After the performances Ossetian the management of labor union of employees of media sent the open letter to Deripaska with condemnation of its position and inadmissibility of pressure upon journalists from business structures. Further articles about activity of the companies of the businessman including RUSAL continued to be published in Vedomosti and in other Russian media.

In March, 2010 Ossetian resigned as the Chief Editor of the newspaper where again Lysova who by then, according to the press, nearly a year de facto directed issue of the newspaper therefore its appointment had "technical" character returned. Then Ossetian headed the website Vedomosti.ru. It defined this transition not as lowering or increase, and as "promotion on the most interesting direction".

2011: Chief Editor of Forbes

In the middle of March, 2011 when Maxim Kashulinsky left a post of the Chief Editor of the Russian version of the Forbes magazine, in a press there were rumors that instead of it Osetinskaya will be appointed to this position. On April 6 on the website of the Axel Springer Russia publishing house owning the Forbes magazine there was an official statement that Elizabeth Osetinskaya becomes the editor-in-chief of this business magazine since May 16, 2011. Afterwards Osetinskaya specified that "all editions under the Forbes brand including the general management the website" were assigned to her. It was noted that the media manager apprehended new appointment with enthusiasm: calling the Russian Forbes one "from the few qualitative editions in Russia", she said that she is going to make the magazine even better.

Since May 16, 2011 Ossetian officially became the Chief Editor of the Russian version of the Forbes magazine.

2013: Managing director of RBC

Since January, 2014 it is appointed the managing director of projects of RBC (the website rbc.ru, daily TV channel RBC TV, RBC newspaper, the RBC magazine and others).

2016: Leaving RBC

In May, 2016 the managing director of RBC Elizabeth Osetinskaya, the Chief Editor of the website of RBC Roman Badanin and the Chief Editor of RBC newspaper Maxim Solyus left holding. The last working day of all three - on May 13, 2016.

Later Solyus wrote to Facebook that he will not open the specific reasons of the leaving. But he is deeply convinced that his dismissal is connected with the editorial policy of RBC and with the fact that because of this editorial policy the owner of holding Mikhail Prokhorov had problems.

"This policy and, in particular, my continuance in office of the Chief Editor of the RBC newspaper, reduce chances of a happy end of "a dispute of economic entities" for all business of Prokhorov", - Solyus considers.

Change of editors of RBC was the solution of the management of RBC holding, the CEO of RBC Nikolay Molibog confirmed to Vedomosti.

"Recently we talked much how further to develop RBC, and in this talk could not come to a consensus as regards important issues therefore made the decision to leave. I want to thank Elizabeth, Roman and Maxim for work and for a contribution to development of the company", said in the official statement of RBC from his name.

According to the source Vedomosti in RBC, at first the decision on Solyus's leaving was made, Ossetian and Badanin send away from solidarity with it.

The last several months pressure upon RBC amplified. As reported to Vedomosti sources in holding, the staff of Presidential Administration and the governments tried to obtain from company management and its shareholder Mikhail Prokhorov of change of editorial policy. First of all officials did not accept investigations of RBC about the people close to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, in particular about the expected daughter of Putin Ekaterina Tikhonova. Two interlocutors close to RBC say that they the first dismissed Solyus as officials got used to read the paper newspaper, but not the website of RBC where materials appeared initially.

2017: Start of the newsletter The Bell

In June, 2017 the website "Bell" — the educational project Ossetian (in 2016 she got a grant in Stanford), test mailing — the aggregator of the news and materials written by other editions was started.

"It is a prototype of a possible product, as in any startup. It should show whether it is worth spending in general on it time, forces and, the main thing, someone's money or not" — explained to Poster the Ossetian[1].

2018: Conflict with one of cofounders of The Bell

In July, 2018 the former manager of The Bell Pavel Miledin told on the page in Yandex. A zen about the beginning of work in the company and about the conflict with the founder of the edition Elizabeth Osetinskaya because of a share in the project.

The Ossetian reacted to a post of the ex-employee of the edition in Facebook. According to her, "it is attempt to do harm to reputation of the project — all obligations to Pavel were fulfilled".
