The Qiwi group transferred IT infrastructure to "cloud"

On October 9, 2013 the Softline company announced completion of works on virtualization of servers of a payment service of QIWI.

Project Task

As a part of QIWI service network of terminals. At the moment the number of transactions is more than 12 million a day. The command of QIWI is located at 32 Russian offices and 7 foreign. Due to the need to provide flexibility at deployment of services of the company there was a need for virtualization of IT infrastructure. The management of QIWI considered the possibility of placement of services in cloud infrastructure of third parties, but on analysis results of costs the conclusion is drawn - ownership of own virtual infrastructure will be more profitable to QIWI in comparison with lease.

Project Progress

The partner of QIWI in the project - Softline company.

Specialists of the contractor carried out test implementation of the existing means of virtualization from different producers. On the basis of comparison made the decision to use products of VMware. Test operation showed that products of VMware optimum conform to requirements of QIWI taking into account specifics of the IT environment: the high-loaded, heterogeneous, dynamic environment.

VMware vSphere with Operations Management provides the main administration console for the vSphere environment which allows to create and manage virtual solutions.

The project is submitted by two stages:

• pilot implementation - took four months and extended to the services which directly are not influencing business processes of the company
• full-scale implementation - about six months with which IT infrastructure of QIWI is completely transferred to virtual environment.

Result of implementation:

• process optimization when implementing new projects and minimization of the corresponding costs,
• increase in fault tolerance of services.

Use of products of VMware allowed to reduce time of deployment of virtual servers for new tasks from several months to two days.
