Content

On December 10, 2013 the CBS company announced completion of upgrade of a wireless network in Veles Capital investment company.

Project Tasks

By the beginning of the project a wireless network of Veles Capital Investment Company - 12 autonomous access points of Cisco of series 1140. At architecture of network there was a number of difficulties: from inconvenience of control and management to impossibility to react quickly to the critical events arising in network. Besides, the staff of IT department had to spend time for setup of a large number of devices at any changes in network, for example, connection of new users and devices.

Andrey Hapayev, the head of the department of IT of Veles Capital Investment Company, noted: "We made the decision to upgrade corporate Wi-Fi network for the purpose of quality improvement of work, security and controllability. For project implementation the solution based on the equipment and the software of Cisco as network equipment of Cisco holds a leading position on quality and reliability was selected. As the contractor we attracted CBS system integrator. CBS is the qualified system integrator and the certified partner Cisco (Cisco Premier Certified Partner). We successfully cooperate with CBS company about ten years on many projects".

Project Progress

Within project implementation on upgrade of network it was required to create a uniform failsafe point of network management and to implement the centralized control system and monitoring of a wireless network.

Semyon Mokhovikov, the lead engineer of CBS company, emphasized: "Use of Cisco controllers together with the software of Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 is most effective for the solution of similar tasks. Using controllers the uniform failsafe point of network management is created, and application of the Cisco Prime Infrastructure software product provides management of complete lifecycle of wired and wireless networks".

For centralized operation access points install controllers of a wireless network Cisco of the WLC 2500 series. Such solution helped to simplify management of access points and to automate network management: the controller independently selects an optimal radio channel and emissive power, automatically switches users to less loaded points. Besides use of controllers increased security of network – the possibility of control of "illegal" points and location of users appeared.

The fault tolerance of a management system was provided by implementation of two controllers – the main and reserve, "N+1" configured as reservation: in case of refusal the main controller the access point automatically is registered on the reserve controller.

For system implementation of management and monitoring it was used the Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 software product. With its help it is possible to provide control of wire and wireless devices of network, to automate connection and setup of new devices, to perform condition monitoring and machine output, to quickly find and fix the problems connected both with devices and with providing access to applications. On the basis of data of monitoring of Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 helps to make detailed reports about network functioning, the including data on load of WLAN, the number of users, the recorded security risks, inventories of the equipment and compliance of network to accepted standards of security.

Andrey Kharitonov, the business development manager of Cisco, emphasized: "Serious business challenges as for a number of devices the Wi-fi technology is the only way to connect to the web are assigned to modern wireless networks (for award enforcement for joint work, online communications, exchange of e-mail and the ave.). Modern wireless devices are the main point of application of efforts for different malefactors. Therefore issues of centralization, controllability, fault tolerance and flexibility network wireless a component are key for providing a trusted and failsafe network in case of different type of the attacks on mobile devices and elements of network infrastructure".

Project Results

Reliability augmentation and safety of network functioning due to implementation of controllers in a failsafe configuration became a result of upgrade. Specialists of IT department had an opportunity of response to critical situations in network and minimized labor costs on maintenance of work of WLAN. Also connection to a monitoring system and managements of other network devices Cisco (switches, routers, firewalls, etc.) and drawing up reports for work of a wireless network became available to them.

As a result of project implementation all effective objectives are achieved of increase in security, quality of work and cost reduction on management of corporate wireless Wi-Fi-network.
