FlexROADM is the new solution simplifying operation of multilevel transport networks due to technologies of automation.
On March 5, 2014 the Infinera company announced emergence of a new solution for simplification of operation of multilevel transport networks by means of technologies of automation.
Description
Multilevel transport networks integrate in themselves efficiency of digital instruments of switching and scalability of optical technologies of switching, creating a telecommunication basis for work of cloud services and the Internet. The new solution is based on the industry-first solution FlexROADM on the basis of superchannels - the first in own way standardized multilevel c-plane for optical networks with spectral switching (SSON), the first commercially available technology of superchannels of 500 Gbps.
The platform combination for packet optical networks of Infinera DTN-X to these technologies gives the unique solution for multilevel automation of intelligent transport networks.

- The FlexROADM multiplexer on the basis of superchannels for scalable optical switching. Convergence of processes of switching in platforms of Infinera is strengthened at the expense of the specialized solution of FlexROADM on the basis of superchannels. FlexROADM provides architecture "to colorless, directionless and contention-less (CDC)" and is available in versions C, CD, and CDC when switching to nine directions. At its integration with OTN switching at the DTN-X platform operators receive the multilevel solution with opportunities of digital aggregation of customer services and optical switching for effective use of superchannels. The combination of such opportunities allows operators to react quickly to changes of requirements from services for traffic, without complicating transaction of operation of network.
- The standardized c-plane for multi-level automation of a transport network. The standardized c-plane which is widely used in products by Infinera extends operation of mechanisms of automation for a framework of functioning of superchannels to the FlexROADM multiplexers compatible to an ecosystem of Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) SSON now. For the first time in the industry the same level of management based on industry standards controls transactions of digital OTN switching, providing a possibility of the simplest connection of services and also switching of superchannels with the separated range at the optical level. It is unique opportunity for operators to organize the maximum extent of automation of an intelligent transport network.
- Superchannels with the separated range for effective transfer in longhaul networks. Third generation of Infinera superchannels capacity of 500 Gbps uses advantages of high-scalable technology of optical integration and the FlexCoherent Processor processor to the organization of the industry-first superchannel with the separated range implemented on one card in the platform for longhaul networks. From the moment of emergence of the DTN-X platform in 2012 clients of Infinera implemented technology of FlexCoherent superchannels of the first and second generation in the networks, having provided cumulative capacity nearly 1 petabit / c.
