MTS started a monitoring system for 20 thousand objects of network

Content

On August 18, 2014 it became known of creation at the telecom operator of MTS of a centralized system of monitoring of information systems for control of different objects of network in seven macroregions of presence of the operator. Partners in the project: Jet Infosystems and HP. The solution is implemented on the Business Service Management (BSM) HP platform in five months and helps to control a status of the IC of the class mission-and business-critical.

Project Tasks

The department of operational monitoring of information systems created on the basis of MTS branch in Krasnodar controls work of IT services in all regions of presence of telecom operator. Geographical distribution and uniqueness of controlled infrastructure demanded creation of a centralized system of monitoring in country scales. On analysis results of different solutions as the platform technologies of HP, one of market leaders of management systems of IT are selected. The competition for the project was won by Jet Infosystems company.

Project Progress

The project team inspected an IT landscape of MTS, logic of operation of the IC and together with the staff of department developed the service and resource models reflecting dependences between IT services and components of applied and infrastructure levels. The automation equipment of processes of monitoring is implemented, mechanisms of quality control of the IT services provided to subscribers are implemented and also rules of multistage message handling about events are developed and configured. For the staff of department are defined and automated, including using HP Operations Orchestration, standard tasks of accomplishment of procedural procedures, diagnostics and support of operability of systems.

The circuit of control switches on servers, the systems of virtualization and storage, active network equipment, system and the application software, DBMS. The monitoring system exercises end-to-end control (from the level of subscriber services to infrastructure facilities), makes correlation of events and is capable to run for computer-assisted retrieval of a source of the reason of incidents.

Use of technologies of bezagentsky monitoring accelerated system deployment in the distributed IT infrastructure of MTS.

Own program developments of Jet Infosystems company helped to reduce terms of the project and improved functionality of a system. The solution which is automatically checking correctness of monitoring of objects and readiness for it of new components of infrastructure, notifying the staff of department of operational monitoring on the revealed discrepancies is implemented.

Project Results

For August 18, 2014 a system works in the mode of working operation. The IT company management of MTS has an opportunity to receive any operational and historical reporting, as on indicators of availability of IT services of the top level, and on work of infrastructure facilities.

"Together with our partners we managed to create the IC monitoring system, unique for the Russian telecom industry, allowing to receive the broad picture about a status of key processes at all levels in all regions of presence, it significantly increases reliability of business processes of the company and subscriber services. Thin setup and adaptation of a system under our needs allowed to lower load of IT services and to increase fault tolerance of systems due to the maximum automation of routine transactions, considerable reduction of time for identification of the root reasons of events and emergence of a possibility of pro-active monitoring, – Sergey Dubinets, the director of the department of operational monitoring of information systems of MTS company noted. – Thus, we received the valuable tool for event management which purpose – to exclude a possibility of the emergency situations affecting stability of operation of the IC".
"Projects of similar scale and complexity last on average not less than a year, however thanks to right strategy we together with partners managed to implement it in 100 working days. It became possible including thanks to the maximum involvement into process of IT specialists of MTS. As a result the company received a convenient system which is actively used today, – Alexey Nikolaev, the Head of Department of management systems of Jet Infosystems company told. – Already during the project of the colleague readily mastered tasks, new to themselves. For short term a system became for them "native" that simplified the subsequent operation".
