The Nizhny Novgorod TsSM completed the complex project of upgrade of IT infrastructure

On October 17, 2014 the Softline company announced readiness of the complex project by request of the Nizhny Novgorod TsSM.

Project Tasks

Heads of departments in the cities of presence of the customer - Nizhny Novgorod, Arzamas and Dzerzhinsk spent a lot of time and funds for business trips. There was obvious a need of upgrade of a corporate system of communications and the protected service of an audio-and video conferencing.

IT infrastructure of the customer is not virtualized, in it outdated versions of the main infrastructure solutions — the Active Directory and Windows Server were used. Telephony acted on analog automatic telephone exchange.

As a result of open competitive procedures Softline became the contractor of the project, optimal terms and the realization value which offered to the Nizhny Novgorod TsSM.

Project Progress

Microsoft Lync Server 2013 is taken in a basis of the project. As there was not enough available IT infrastructure for the solution of assigned tasks, after inspection of the party made the decision on upgrade:

• purchase of new servers,
• creation of a failover cluster,
• transfer of the available services in virtual environment
• telephony migration.

Works began initial audit and formalization of requirements to hardware and to the software. Then supplied the equipment and licenses. For reduction of project deadlines project works on architecture were in parallel performed.

After that experts of integrator deployed the new services existing earlier transferred to virtual environment.

At a stage of creation of data center in Nizhny Novgorod specialists of Softline delivered: two Dell PowerEdge R620 servers, EqualLogic PS4110X storage system, PowerConnect 8132 switch and voice gateway Mediant. After primary setup engineers of the company created a failover cluster and turned virtual machines on Hyper-V. All IT services which are earlier used on hardware servers are transferred to virtual environment.

During the project the service Active Directory is updated till 2012 versions by means of step-by-step migration on intermediate editions. Transfer of AD was executed in working time. All data of users are saved.

After deployment of Lync integrated from the operating analog automatic telephone exchange, the hybrid analog and digital system of communications with preserving of number plans and numbers of users thereby is organized. With the consolidation Lync with the gateway AudioCodes calls on external numbers are available to subscribers of the Nizhny Novgorod TsSM. Lync is integrated with Skype used for communication with some external customers.

In a closing stage of the project setup of service Lync Mobility is carried out, it provided a possibility of communication from mobile phones that allows heads to stay in touch, to use the mobile client of Lync, high-speed Internet access and work with documents online.

Project Results

As a result of completion of project works, the customer received the modern platform of the joint communications on the Microsoft Lync Server 2013 platform.

With transfer of IT services in virtual environment and installation of the new hardware the fault tolerance, reliability and performance of IT infrastructure of the Nizhny Novgorod TsSM increased.

"After inspection of infrastructure of the client it became clear that the versatile complex project including supply of iron and software, virtualization implementation, creation of private "cloud" and directly Lync deployment is necessary. Now the staff of TsSM can organize audio-and video conferences, communicate in a chat and use presence statuses. All this allows to save time and traveling expenses. Communications became more convenient: from one Lync Client window it is possible to call not only to subscribers of Lync, but also on Skype, on landline and mobile phones" — Vitaly Popov, the head of group of infrastructure projects of department of solutions of Microsoft of Softline company told.

"Engineers of Softline company worked and implemented all aspects of upgrade of IT infrastructure of our enterprise: the equipment, software, delivery of mobile devices, integration with analog telephony and Skype. During the project licenses for access to server products for 250 users were delivered and all physical servers are virtualized. All works were performed less than in 5 months: the Softline company successfully implemented complex implementation in the stipulated terms.
