On November 27, 2014 JSC Rosseti, IBM and IT Energy announced project completion on creation of a uniform corporate data processing center for JSC Rosseti and its child, dependent societies.
Project Tasks
The project prepared for the purpose of performance improvement and reliability of corporate systems, but on condition of expense optimization of the enterprises of an electric grid.
Having estimated different scenarios of the organization of work of corporate systems of the company, the management of JSC Rosseti made the decision on use of resources of a specialized data processing center. The project was executed on resources of DPC Kitay-gorod of IT Energy company. The team of specialists of IT Energy and experts of IBM worked on design of architecture of a hardware and software system.
Project Progress
DPCs, the first on resources, corporate information systems of JSC Lenenergo and JSC IDGC South on the SAP software platform were placed.
"Use of resources of specialized data center – a profitable alternative to own computer systems. Thus, the Rosseti group is exempted from need to solve expensive problems of acquisition of the expensive server hardware, its setup, the round-the-clock support in operating state, equipment of premises reliable engineering infrastructure, to laying and service of the structured cable networks, – Vitaly Shadrin, the director of the department of development of corporate and technology automated control systems noted Rosseti. – Placement of information systems in DPC of IT Energy allowed to receive productive, reliable, scalable IT infrastructure in the shortest possible time and at the same time to optimize expenses on IT".
In addition to creation of a corporate data network, all-corporate information systems are unrolled: DZ ACS, the portal of the operational reporting, the investment management of IBM Cognos, ASUD Documentum and other systems which considerably simplified information exchange.
Project Results
In a data processing center the systems of the corporate reporting of the customer are placed, and access to resources of the center is organized via secure channels of communication. Based on the first month of operation of the party noted increase in high-speed performance of systems – time of formation of demanded reports was reduced more than by 10 times.
"The choice of the solution on the IBM Power platform was caused by high rates of values of performance, fault tolerance and density of placement of this architecture, – Andrey Akulshin, the chief engineer of the project of IT Energy noted. – And ample opportunities of horizontal and vertical scaling made the solution rather flexible for satisfaction of business needs during all lifecycle".
"High rates of reliability and performance were reached due to the choice of computing resources based on the high-end servers of the IBM Power 780 level and the organization of the multi-layer data storage system (DSS). Use of modern technologies for network virtualization of storage based on IBM SAN Volume Controller, high-performance storage systems based on IBM FlashSystem 820 and the disk IBM Storwize V7000 systems allowed optimum not only to distribute resources, but also to implement functionality on runtime allocation of performance of DWH between information systems, – Andrey Narskikh, the Head of Department of the IC, IT Energy told. – For data backup scalable tape library IBM TS3500 with LTO-6 cartridges was used. For the auxiliary systems Intel platform on the basis of IBM Flex System, the Flex System x240 and x440 servers and network equipment of Flex System EN4093R 10Gb was selected".
"At IBM extensive experience with the companies of the energy sector is accumulated. It is pleasant to me to note that the implemented project allowed Rosseti company to construct flexible architecture which simplified process of information exchange and ensured reliable and productive functioning of corporate systems", – Andrey Solukovtsev, the Head of Department of corporate systems of data storage, IBM in Russia and the CIS emphasized.
