LANIT: A cloud solution based on ROSA OS

In December, 2014 announced Lanit solution development for creation of infrastructure cloud services, both public, and private, based on the Open source software. The company calculates that upon completion of all planned activities, his customers will receive "the innovation product independent of the foreign producer".

The solution includes the software package OpenStack, client jobs and a set of the ready preconfigured services on ROSA OS. Among such services - a network folder, a file server, e-mail, means of the organization of joint work, the proxy server.

Lanita told TAdviser that the directory of the preconfigured services actively is replenished. In addition to already mentioned there are also an antivirus,backup, a monitoring system,DBMS, the Web server, a management system for lifecycle of operating systems and applications,1C, a terminal server. Also the company studies solutions on VKS,contact centers,BPM solutions.

The OpenStack format was selected by developers as it is the platform, most popular in the world, for creation of cloud infrastructures, representatives of Lanit explain, adding that, implementing the products OpenStack, their specialists used competences of technology partners –Mirantis company. The Mirantis OpenStack software product including the FUEL component which allows to unroll quickly in the automatic mode a cloud platform is involved in the solution.

The developed solution is tested on compatibility with OS ROSA Enterprise Linux Server and ROSA Cobalt. The first represents the free software compatible to popular free and commercial applications. The second – is certified FSTEC in desktop and server options and is used by the commercial structures, industrial enterprises and state agencies working with confidential information including personal data.

According to representatives of the company, certification of the created solution, preparation of a technique of migration of the automated jobs on a cloud platform and also further completion of the platform under providing cloud operator services is necessary to developers. "In case of successful implementation of all these tasks, the Russian government and commercial structures will receive the qualitative innovation product independent of the foreign producer", calculate in Lanita.

Opinion of experts on the solution

The head of cloud infrastructure of department of cloud computing of SoftlineLeonid Anikin notes that independence of foreign producers – the task demanded from the state customers. However experts disperse how for this purpose it is possible to use global projects in the field of the free software, he says.

"Most of Linux or OpenStack developers are in the USA, including RedHat company on which products many elements of the ROSA operating system are based. Availability of a source program code is always plus, but, of course, in itself does not remove dependence on foreign partners", - Anikin considers.

There is no special uniqueness in the solution Lanita: the system integrator offers the cloud platform working based on Openstack and including a possibility of start of ROSA OS within guest machines,Maxim Berezin, the head of virtual data centerCroc says. He added that in "cloud" his company did not test ROSA OS: "but I can assume that it will be able completely to work in our Virtual data center, as well as the operating system Red Hat, CenOS and other Linux OS", Berezin told.

"Cloud" Croc, by the way, is our own development offered the market in 2009. The majority of nodes of the platform is constructed based on the open source software and own program developments. Already one it speaks about import-substituting potential, - the head of virtual data center Croc said. - Whether we will begin to propose to customers solutions with operating ROSA systems, will show time. It will depend on as far as such solutions will be demanded by the market and whether they will be able full to cope with business challenges".

Vladimir Meshalkin, the director of the center of R-Style computer systems, notes that use as the platform of cloud infrastructure of solutions OpenStack is one of the most perspective directions at the moment.

"Giants of the market and the companies specializing in implementation propose the "branded" solutions together with services of the support services. Unfortunately, use of services of such companies levels process of import substitution and does not exclude dependence on the non Russian services and products. Process of implementation, a support and maintenance of similar solutions should be performed completely by the Russian companies", - he says.

According to Meshalkin, in the field of OS and infrastructure cloud components everything is more or less defined, however the main questions remain in the field of applied and business software. Despite the seeming possibility of the choice, there is not a lot of products of the enterprise level, and high requirements from customers to quality and reliability of work of these systems imposes obligations on the supplier or mean the regular structure directly in the customer allowing to support and accompany a product, the director of the center of R-Style computer systems believes.
