2012: ROSA Enterprise Linux Server «Helium»
The main task of ROSA Enterprise Linux Server "Helium" is to ensure the compatibility of free and commercial enterprise applications, including at the binary level. Therefore, RELS is built on the basis of two free systems: Red Hat and Mandriva, which are supplemented by ROSA developments. This allows you to create a stable distribution with extensive functionality in the field of deploying private clouds and centralized management of network resources.
In the presented test version of ROSA Enterprise Linux Server "Helium," work on the development of key components of the system was continued. As a result, the ROSA Server Setup was updated, the ROSA Directory Server was updated, the ROSA Management Console was updated, the LXDE components were updated to the current versions, the package composition was changed with minimal installation and in the LXDE working environment, the ability to install the system over the network was ensured, the stability and security of the main system components were increased, etc.
Among the changes made to the ROSA Directory Server, one can distinguish the emergence of new original tools that allow you to automate the process of maintaining DNS up-to-date for all hosts on the network and timely updating of the network configuration. For these purposes, several components were developed: an overlay for LDAP dnsmod and a pseudo-file system ldapbindfs.
Dnsmod allows you to edit DNS data directly in LDAP, using a special web interface or an external program, in dynamic zone update mode. Nevertheless, the main purpose of dnsmod is to automatically track data change operations in the DNS record tree. For example, the operation of adding, modifying, deleting, and modifying a DN entry in LDAP is checked.
Ldapbindfs is a file system that works through FUSE and is designed to work with DNS zone files. All operations on the zone file appear as read, write, delete, and edit operations on LDAP.
The most interesting thing about this solution is that no changes are required in the BIND itself. The ldapbindfs file system works in such a way that the named server does not "suspect" at all about the existence of the LDAP server and still works with standard configuration files. This provides a unified format for storing DNS records and keeping them up-to-date and easy to update. The administrator can only enter the necessary data through the web interface.
The main components of the distribution remained unchanged: kernel 2.6.32; glibc 2.12; xorg-x11 1.10; httpd 2.2.15; mysql 5.1; postgresql 8.4; php 5.3.3; ruby 1.8.7; perl 5.10.1.
In November 2012, ROSA introduced the ROSA Enterprise Linux Server Helium 2012 server operating system. RELS 2012 is based on a combination of the package base of the world leader in the field of server OS RedHat, modern open technologies from original projects (upstream) and ROSA's own developments.
This allowed you to maintain binary compatibility with popular enterprise-level commercial applications and at the same time expand the functionality provided, for example, for easy integration into existing enterprise networks, visual configuration and server management. RELS is the first step towards ROSA Cloud Platform, a comprehensive cloud platform solution. RELS development is fully implemented in your own ROSA ABF development and assembly system, including controlled reassembly of all packages from source codes.
