ViewSonic refused notebooks for most of employees

On February 16, 2015 the Viewsonic corporation announced upgrade of own IT infrastructure with the assistance of the technology partner of Vesk Ltd. - supplier of service of DaaS.

Project Tasks

For the purpose of cardinal change of methods of providing IT resources for employees, need to get rid of outdated servers and the PC, the Viewsonic company signed the agreement with Vesk company to which it transferred functions on the organization and maintenance of the IT environment. It was going to replace the available notebooks which service life approached end, thin clients of Viewsonic. The ultimate goal - to provide to all employees access to a corporate desktop, data and applications from any office in Europe. Besides, availability of servers, data protection and also network performance should be increased.

Project Progress

Vesk Ltd company. provided infrastructure for placement of virtual desktops, access to which is implemented by means of two models of the thin clients of Viewsonic connected to the VG2433 monitor.

The IT infrastructure security level was succeeded to raise Viewsonic companies, to reduce costs on its support, reaction speed at elimination of technical issues at the staff of the company increased.

For a corporate cloud ViewSonic, VESK LTD company selected hardware resources, access to which was provided only to Viewsonic (Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) is a virtual private cloud). The similar solution allowed to protect in addition data and to guarantee necessary performance.

When implementing the project on the party of Vesk Ltd. it is used by Citrix software:

• Citrix NetScaler with Citrix StoreFront for secure access from regional offices (Russia, France, Turkey, Germany, Finland, Greece, Sweden, Serbia and Spain, headquarters in London);

• Citrix XenApp 6.5 for the organization of access to a virtual desktop and applications.

In addition to the main objective on virtualization of IT infrastructure of the European department of Viewsonic, before specialists of Vesk Ltd. the additional tasks are set:

• Transition from MS Exchange 2003 to MS Exchange 2010 with preserving of all user data.

• Easy access of users of the European offices to the intranet resources, located in North American and the Chinese offices Viewsonic;

• Transfer of all work files from notebooks and workstations in "cloud".

At the solution of these tasks, in addition to processes on physical data transfer, problems of additional optimization of volumes of information transferred to "cloud" were solved.

Project Results

Optimization allowed to reduce rent costs of disk space on the Vesk servers.

As a result, in addition to obvious economy on the IT equipment, ViewSonic had an opportunity to cut down expenses on the electric power, to reduce costs for the IT personnel which are engaged in user support and to refuse completely own servers. Expenses on used by employees of software were cut down as Vesk, as well as other providers of "cloud" services are ready to provide access to necessary applications on more advantageous conditions.

Transition on thin clients allowed to redistribute new notebooks for benefit of the employees who are most needing high-performance mobile PCs. Besides, the staff of Viewsonic can be connected to a corporate desktop from mobile devices on Android and iOS, both personal, and provided by IT department now.
