Rosbank and Jet Infosystems company optimized and increased reliability of work of the core banking system due to separation of the productive database more than 25 TB in size into operational and analytical parts. These core banking systems and storages are stored and serviced independently, taking into account different profiles of loading and requirements to availability now. At the same time almost by 8 times data recovery of the core banking system in case of failure accelerated and the efficiency of use of the hardware increased. Separation and data migration are made strictly during the periods of the taken-away technology windows and did not influence work of users of the core banking system.
"Operational data occupy only the eighth part from total amount, but at the same time we had to service base as high-critical. The decision on separation arose long ago, however there was several serious 'but'. During functioning in uniform space data quite closely grew together, and such transaction bore for us additional risks, – Sotin Denis, the head of IT directorate of Rosbank tells. – Therefore for the solution of this task the reliable partner to whom we could entrust the system of the class business-critical was required for us. With Jet Infosystems company we implemented not one difficult joint project".
As on the simple core banking system no more than 3 hours were allotted, the procedure of separation and migration was carefully studied and several times tested. Besides, at each stage the plan of return to an initial status was provided, and mechanisms of transfer are registered taking into account interrelations between the separated databases. At migration of analytical data tables, small by the size, were transferred to new base by one flow, for tables in several TB scenarios of parallel migration then search indexes were also in parallel created were implemented.
Separation allowed to reduce time of backup and recovery of critical data and to optimize use of hardware resources. Now for replication of the core banking system on the reserve platform channels of smaller capacity are required, and analytical data are stored on less expensive Midrange-arrays. The released disk space of the class Hi-End can be used for the further ABS expansion.
"The problem of storage of operational and analytical data in one base – not a rarity, especially if this uniform base functions for a long time. However not each our partner decides on the responsible and uncommon project on separation. In our case the task became complicated also the fact that during the project the version of the base cardinally exchanged and also changes were constantly made to the application software – mechanisms of separation and migration had to be adjusted, – Alexey Struchenko, the head of department of optimization of DBMS and applications of Jet Infosystems company tells. – Thanks to joint efforts of developers of bank and our experts, including Oracle Certified Master, reorganization of data did not influence work of users - it is one of the main achievements of the project".
