Thin clients represent diskless systems which serve as the tool for an information access and to computing powers of the central server. When using thin clients load distribution lays down completely on a terminal server, and each user works behind the separate device (terminal stations) which in itself does not make any calculations, and only serves for determination of tasks and obtaining answers.

2015: Decline of the market by 7%, Dell saves leadership
On March 25, 2016 analysts of IDC published results of a research of the world market of corporate thin clients. Its volume as experts counted, was reduced by 7% in pieces because of reduction of IT budgets in the companies and state agencies. Recession took place almost in all regions.
According to IDC, in 2015 universal deliveries of thin clients and terminal client stations made a little more than 5 million units against 5.45 million pieces the previous year. In October-December, 2015 rather same period of the 2014th shipments decreased by 6.8%.
In the market of thin clients researchers explain regress with the fact that many users of these products or postponed purchases of the new equipment, or cut off expenses on them owing to economic uncertainty and reduction of the state budgets.
2015 was complicated by a number of different factors — the analyst of IDC Jay Chou says. — Though recession was expected to some extent as many organizations updated the systems only one-two years ago, big economic and currency problems definitely had an impact on budgets and terms of accomplishment of other projects. At the same time understanding of infrastructure of virtual computers improves, and IDC does more optimistic forecasts especially as the companies begin to think of failure from Windows 7. |
In 2015 sales of corporate thin clients were reduced in all regions, except Asia-Pacific (except for Japan) where rise more than for 10% took place.

As for the largest producers, the first place reserved Dell, however a separation from the closest persecutor of HP Inc. remained minimum. The American companies control 25.6% and 25% of global market of thin clients respectively. At the same time both vendors endured rather notable recession: in 2015 Dell reduced deliveries of thin clients to 13.8%, and HP — by 15%.
NComputing closing top three finished 2015 with the 13 percent growth of shipments thanks to participation in some large projects in the Chinese financial sector.[1]
2014: Became Dell the largest producer of thin clients
On March 23, 2015 the research report of Worldwide Quarterly Enterprise Client Device Tracker on the world market of thin clients was published. Authors of work are analysts of IDC.[2]
According to their calculation, in 2014 software makers to the whole world shipped 1.4 million thin clients and terminal client stations that is 12.5% less in comparison with previous year. Experts note that in the first half of year the high demand on these devices was observed, in the third quarter — small decrease, and in a final quarter there was a notable recession.
According to the results of all 2014 of shipment of corporate client devices dropped by 0.2% year on year, having made 5.4 million units. In 2013 rise (+3.4% in kind) thanks to the termination of official support of the Windows XP operating system took place that led to broad deployment of infrastructure of the virtual desktop systems (VDI) and the weakening demand on terminal clients.
Thin clients still remain the main segment of the world market of client devices of a corporate class where occupy about 96% of sales, data of IDC for 2014 demonstrate. Deliveries of thin clients increased by 4.6%, than so-called zero clients (devices without operating systems) whose share in total amount of the considered market was reduced to 23.5% by the end of 2014 could not brag.
Analysts pay attention to the leadership occupied with Dell. This American company in the fourth quarter prepared 2014 for sale of 385,566 thin clients and terminal client stations that is 12% more, than the previous year. In a year the market share of vendor grew up from 21.2% to 27.2% against 25.4% at the former leader of HP.

The financial sector helped Dell to become the largest producer of thin clients
HP reduced deliveries of client devices to 17.1%, to 360,480 in October-December, 2014. The financial sector became the main stimulator of growth of Dell.
In addition to change of the leader, in the five of the largest producers there was one more change – NComputing rolled down on the fifth position, having conceded to Centerm and Igel companies. According to experts, failures of NComputing are connected with financial problems of the producer because of which it reduced shipments of thin clients by 70% in the last quarter of 2014. At the same time the market share of the company fell up to 5.1% from 14.8% in the fourth quarter 2013.
