Content

On May 20, 2015 it became known about implementations of the Aveva Engineering application in VNIPIneft Opyt company[1].

Project Tasks

The project began at the end of 2014. Main objectives of implementation:

  • arrange flows of engineering information. The enterprise set the object — to create more transparent, simple and clear system of notifications on changes of design data.

  • synchronize information which is stored in different programs in which the staff of different departments works.

  • reduce the probability of emergence of errors in output documentation. Creation of a system of synchronization of data on the basis of the Engineering application, according to the company, will create the additional instrument of check of correctness of information that will have a positive impact on quality of output documentation.

  • accelerate release of projects at the expense of design process optimization. Creation of the central information warehouse in the form of the Engineering database in design processes will reduce a set of intermediate elements, for example, need for exchange of documents between departments for approval accomplishment because all project information is in one database will disappear and is available to all project participants.

  • automate transfer of tasks between departments. In JSC VNIPIneft this problem is solved with use of the Engineering application which allows to review a method of transfer of tasks usual today from department in department in the form of a set of documents in an electronic or paper format and to perform transition to issue of tasks to related departments by change of the status of readiness of an element in the single database.

  • accelerate information search in the project. Using the uniform data warehouse everything project participants can quickly carry out information search and be sure that the found information is relevant at the time of search. Besides, use of the distributed attributes allows to see a full range of the data on an element completed by different departments separately.

  • improve controllability of the project. Applying the system of the statuses of elements to the data which are stored in the Engineering database, project managers have an opportunity of constant control of a project status and receiving various report types for adoption of timely solutions.

In the drawing of a nizhepredstavlen the simplified diagram of information flows between the different modules AVEVA and other engineering programs which are used in JSC VNIPIneft. Apparently from the scheme, information flows in the organization represent very tangled picture, besides that here only basic elements of a real system are designated.

In the drawing the scheme of information flows using the Engineering application is given below. Use of the application allows to arrange to some extent those numerous information streams which exist during the work on the project. Engineering works as the manager managing information circulating between engineering applications and the order entering more into the system.

In the drawing the scheme of obtaining output documentation is given below. Information comes to documents from the different programs which are used in different departments. At such approach at a certain combination of circumstances there is a probability to face a problem of mistiming of data and getting into output documentation of outdated information.

When using the Engineering application (the drawing is lower) documents form from the single database in which information always is in current status that excludes a possibility of getting of outdated information into the output document. Considerably process of creation of audits as documents are connected only with one database in which directly and the change history is stored becomes simpler.

Project Progress

Main stages of implementation Aveva Engineering:

  • the first stage created an implementation team. The Engineering application affects all main production departments and included in an implementation team representatives of departments:
    • technology,
    • mounting,
    • department of instrumentations
    • electrotechnical.

After team building of implementation their external training at office of Aveva company is provided. The training course was completed by the specialists of department of IT administering the application [[Aveva Engineering|Engineering. Further, according to the plan of implementation, the pilot project which purpose was to test all opportunities of the software product and to fulfill those main scenarios of interaction between departments most of which often arise in the course of work on the real project was carried out. For a pilot project selected the reduced model of a real object including all set of unique elements. Carrying out a pilot project on a reduced model reduced time without loss of quality.

Along with a pilot project in JSC VNIPIneft booked internal audit of design processes in production departments, check of level of automation and extent of use of PDMS. Based on the booked audit the plan of review of the approaches which are available at institute and drawing up new cards of interaction of departments taking into account Engineering use was created. These works require considerable time expenditure, but is obvious that without drawing up accurately registered regulations and schemes of interaction implementation of the Engineering application is doomed to failure. For May 21, 2015 at institute the system of automatic synchronization of data between different programs using which the data which reached a certain status will be automatically synchronized with the Engineering database (the drawing lower) is created.

Project Results

According to project team, the main difficulties at implementation of the Engineering application arise right at the beginning because the staff of the company needs to get used to the new modes of work. Therefore at the first stages it is necessary to involve the most loyal and involved employees. After the critical mass of the people who seized technology collects, process of implementation will go already by inertia. The specialist, responsible for implementation of the program, should be engaged in selection of participants of an implementation team. It is important to consider presence at participants of a command not only good qualification in the data domain along with the high level of computer literacy, but also their personal qualities. The speed and qualitative level of implementation directly depends on work of a command. Afterwards these employees will become the centers of distribution of the new ideas in the production departments.

The impossibility to provide all parts and nuances of the real project at the first stages of implementation caused implementation in several iterations, each of which covers all chain of the movement of information between departments. Each subsequent iteration is filled with more detailed parts and considers more special cases which are found in real projects. At such approach, on the one hand, time of start of a system increases, but with another — the risks connected with implementation of the program in the real project decrease.
