The Ministry of Transport of Dagestan "RBC Kavkaz" clarified that the decision to allocate funds was made on the basis of the implementation of the project at a level of at least 10%. According to the project, it is planned to build a new artificial runway 3.2 thousand m long and 45 m wide, which will be connected to the old one using three taxiways.

Earlier it was reported that the new runway will allow receiving aircraft of all types. Completion of the construction is scheduled for 2026. The total cost of the project is estimated at 13.2 billion rubles.

In June 2023, the head of Yakutia, Aysen Nikolaev, reported that the reconstruction of Olekminsk airport was mainly completed, the runway was functioning. Work remained related to the accompanying infrastructure: fencing the entire perimeter of the airport, construction of aprons.

According to the Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia Vasily Desyatkov, tenders will be announced to complete the work in the near future. The completion of the reconstruction is scheduled for 2024. PKU Rostransmodernizatsiya terminated the contract with a contractor engaged in the reconstruction of the Olekminsk airport in Yakutia.
