2015: Apple transfers data of the Russian users to the Russian Federation
On September 10, 2015 the name of the partner of Apple in localization of data in Russia became known. The same company which cooperates in the similar project with an online service of hotel booking of Booking.com (in more detail about it here) became it.
According to Kommersant with reference to a source, familiar with a situation, Apple agreed with IXcellerate company about data transfer of the Russian users in data center in the territory of the Russian Federation. The American giant occupied less than 50 racks at the total power of DPC in 700 racks. Apple announced the tender for data transfer of the Russian users for servers to Russia at the end of July, 2015. IXcellerate and Apple refrained from comments.
"For Apple the contract with IXcellerate is not formal execution of the requirement of the law on personal data. It is the serious and large contract" — one of interlocutors of the edition said.
The director of the Russian Association for Electronic Communications Sergey Plugotarenko considers that blocking of Apple services in Russia could lead to "great discontent and social tension among Russian-speaking users" as the products of the company united in one ecosystem, different segments of the population use.[1]
