2015: Cooperation of VimpelCom and "Yandex" in the field of Big Data
On November 19, 2015 it became known of cooperation of VimpelCom and "Yandex" in Big Data. The Internet company will help the operator to make more exact decisions in the work.
According to Vedomosti with reference to representatives of VimpelCom and "Yandex", the company signed the memorandum of strategic cooperation within which the telecommunication provider will use mathematical models and Yandex Data Factory technologies (the division of "Yandex" which is engaged in implementation of technologies of the analysis of Big Data). Thanks to them VimpelCom will be able to predict better outflow of subscribers, to select the most optimal channels for advertizing, etc.
According to the director of Yandex Data Factory Evgenia Zavalishina, "Yandex" will develop predictive and referral models which will be combined with own systems of the operator for VimpelCom. The representative of VimpelCom Anna Aybasheva noted that the company hopes for obtaining the first results of joint work in February-March, 2016 then the possibility of the conclusion of commercial contracts will be discussed.
The edition source close to VimpelCom considers that such type of partnership with "Yandex" will allow the operator to earn additional several hundred millions of rubles at the expense of cost optimization and the direct growth of revenue.
Earlier the head of telecommunication division of LetterOne fund (is the largest shareholder of the Vimpelcom corporation owning Russian VimpelCom) Alexey Reznikovich told the Bloomberg agency that IT systems of holding became outdated, they consist of a set of levels and cannot adequately accumulate Big Data for the subsequent work with them.
Cooperation with "Yandex" has no relation to transformation of IT structure, claim in VimpelCom. At the operator the powerful examination in the field of Big Data (the company develops this direction since July, 2013), and partnership with "Yandex" is only one of methods of its gain, Anna Aybasheva told.[1]
