Yandex Data Factory Big Data analysis and consultation

In December, 2014 "Yandex" announced opening of the direction on work with so-called Big Data (Big Data) — Yandex Data Factory. Its services are expected the companies which deal with big arrays of information: for example, indications of sensors, audio-and videos, data on orders, etc.

As representatives of "Yandex" reported CNews, it is about the isolated direction in the company in which about 30 people^[1] at the moment work^[2].

Assure of the company that its technologies — machine learning, image identification and speeches, deep neural networks, natural languag processing — allow to analyze data of clients and to receive the solution of the tasks set by them.

"The analysis of "Big Data' using machine learning — young and perspective area — the head of Yandex Data Factory Evgenia Zavalishina says. — Developed the used algorithms "Yandex" for own needs: search, forecasting of traffic jams, targeting of advertizing, drawing up musical recommendations. However algorithms analyze not "contents' of data, but interrelations between them and therefore can be applied in any industry".

The company specifies that are interested in all industries where there are Big Data and where is an opportunity using these data to have business effect. "Now we have in focus following industries: retail, finance, logistics, telecom, power, oil and gas industry, astronautics — representatives of "Yandex" say. — The fact that we precisely select these industries is connected also with the fact that they are represented by our first customers and also with some other factors: openness of the industry in general, degree of readiness of the industry for use of technologies. Our algorithms in itself are universal".

In "Yandex" claim that in addition to the technologies necessary for processing of big arrays of information, the company locates also experts in this area. Besides, "Yandex" has own system of training of such specialists. In 2007 there began work "The school of data analysis" for students of older years and university graduates. In 2014 "Yandex" and Higher School of Economics opened faculty of computer sciences which part is, including, department of Big Data and information search.

In "Yandex" announce several taken place pilot projects performed within the last year with the partner companies which already brought the first results. For example, for the road company in Yandex Data Factory processed data on traffic congestion, quality of a covering, average speed of traffic and accident rate. It gave the chance in real time to make the forecast of jams and to reveal sections with a high probability of road accident at the next o'clock.

For unnamed large bank in "Yandex" analyzed the information about his clients and their actions that allowed to make the personalized offers and to increase sales of banking products.

Yandex Data Factory carries the status of the international project with offices in Moscow and Amsterdam. Both the Russian, and foreign companies can use services of Yandex Data Factory.
