In ITMO University the campus network of data exchange is reorganized and upgraded

On November 12, 2015 the Trinity company announced creation of a wireless network of data transmission on the basis of Wi-fi technology by request of the ITMO University.

Project Tasks

For the organization of mobile access to "cloud" computing powers of educational institution it was required to adjust steadily working Wi-fi network in the body of educational institution.

ITMO University (2013)

By the beginning of the project at the ITMO University the small pilot wireless network from 20 access points organized on the equipment Cisco of outdated standard 802.11b/g worked. It did not correspond to requirements of the university also by performance parameters. The cost of its updating on the new equipment Cisco is excessively high that did not allow to scale infrastructure providing completeness of a covering with a wireless network of buildings of educational institution.

Competences of Trinity integrator became the main argument when choosing the contractor for upgrade of a system. Specialists of the company carried out the analysis of the operating infrastructure of the ITMO University and suggested to consider technical solutions from other vendors.

Project Progress

In an analysis result of technical proposals a choice was made for benefit of the equipment of Extreme Networks company on the basis of which it is possible to create the solution within the set budget and according to requirements of the customer. For the organization of network access points, controllers of a wireless network, a software platform of management of wire and wireless infrastructure were used.

In a work progress over the project specialists of Trinity executed a full stroke of works on implementation, from project development of wireless network infrastructure before configuring of active equipment.

Implementation is carried out step by step, in process of readiness of SCS of the university for installation of access points. In the course of setup of the equipment training of system administrators of the customer for the subsequent operation of network is provided. Implementation is executed within two months.

Project Results

The scaling options put at a system design stage in 2014 helped specialists of the university in 2015 - to expand a wireless network on 50 access points. For November 11, 2015 several hundred users - students and teachers use network.

"We managed to create the convenient wireless solution of an Enterprise-class which conforms to all stated requirements, among which scalability, simplicity of management, support of the concept of BYOD and an opportunity to organize a complete covering of training courses at the limited budget, - Victor Sychuzhnikov, the associate director of Vuztelekomcentre of the ITMO University noted. – The unrolled system allows without excess efforts to carry out scaling and adaptation, for example, to organize integration of accounts of users of a wireless network with information systems of the university for automatic quoting of the selected resources".
