2015: Microsoft and Autodesk created a CAD in virtual reality

At the end of November, 2015 Microsoft and Autodesk announced joint development of technology which will allow to project and create three-dimensional models in virtual reality.

The project of Microsoft and Autodesk received the name FreeForm. It assumes integration of the computerized Microsoft HoloLens glasses into the cloud applicaion for industrial design and design of Autodesk Fusion 360.

HoloLens augmented rReality glasses will use in Autodesk Fusion 360

The HoloLens device, wearable on the head, using the concept of "holographic calculations", allows to see things with the added computer picture around. The device is equipped with the cameras and a set of sensors monitoring provision of the head and "understanding" what is done by the user and in what environment it is.

Microsoft and Autodesk aim to transfer 3D models from flat screens to virtual space in which engineers and designers, having put on a helmet of augmented reality, could study three-dimensional objects, rotate them or somehow in a different way interact with them as. Developers imprinted the idea of the project on video:

"When we for the first time saw HoloLens, we at once felt its opportunities for 3D - design and industrial design — the Autodesk Fusion 360 developer Garin Gardiner says. — We studied how users can work together with one holographic model, examine it from all directions and discuss different aspects of design as though it really was on their table".

Such technology should accelerate process of creation of physical prototypes and ready-made products. However by the end of November, 2015 this system is only at a stage of development and it is unknown when it enters mass market.

It is possible that it is necessary to wait for this product long as Microsoft promised to begin serial deliveries of HoloLens glasses only by 2020. In the first quarter 2016 this device will be available to developers within the pilot project which participants will have to pay $3 thousand [1]
