2021: Extension for Engineering Analysis
On October 11, 2021, Autodesk introduced the additional capabilities of Fusion 360 and the entire portfolio of solutions for design engineers and product manufacturers.
According to the company, two extensions have been added to Fusion 360: the Product Design Extension and the Simulation Extension. The updated capabilities are designed to bring more functionality to the platform from the point of view of design, modeling and engineering. The release of these extensions to the market is expected in early 2022.
The Product Design Extension provides users with design tools to automate the creation of complex functional elements, such as lattice structures and patterns of elements based on algorithms that are time consuming if created by traditional 3D modeling methods.
The Product Design Extension allows users to automate the creation of complex features that are typically time consuming when created using traditional 3D modeling methods.
The Simulation Extension gives users unrestricted access to existing full-access analysis capabilities. Previously, analysis capabilities were only available on a paid basis. Designers and engineers can now choose the most appropriate option for them and find a solution that will reduce weight, material costs, and optimize product functionality.
The Simulation Extension allows users to explore various factors, including the performance of an object under thermal and mechanical stress, even before the product is created.
The Fusion 360 model, which offers basic capabilities along with technological enhancements, allows the user to pay only for the additional functions that they need. This approach is particularly useful in the field of consumer electronics design . It allows you to keep costs under control.
The use of Fusion 360 in creating the Logitech G435 family of wireless gaming headsets has provided such capabilities as quick prototyping, the ability to generate generative modeling, as well as the possibility of organic integration into existing workflows. Logitech was able to build Fusion 360 into its existing product design and development infrastructure without having to redesign and replace it in terms of exploring the capabilities of this modern set of tools.
Ansys modeling technology will provide Autodesk users with a "spelling check" feature that helps identify and resolve design errors, thereby optimizing efficiency and enabling faster creation of better products.
Building on the capabilities of their existing partnership, Autodesk and Ansys will present plans for a fully integrated Fusion platform 360 a set of functions for designing, validating and validating PCBs, which will further enhance the capabilities of the circuitry software.
This initial integration will allow users to verify and validate PCB designs using Ansys validation technology built directly into Fusion 360. The company will provide the opportunity to conduct advanced design compliance checks for PCB designs and to obtain results of electrical product performance assessment for compliance with specification and certification requirements in almost real time. In addition, this solution will help users identify and then resolve errors.
In addition to creating tools for design and production, Autodesk pays great attention to the problem of an acute shortage of skilled personnel in the production. To meet this need, the company plans to launch a program of certification of specialists associated with Fusion 360 - a series of courses is being created - four certificates - to obtain qualifications in the specialties of machine operator and mechanical engineer.

2019: Ansys Mechanical Compatibility
On November 21, 2019, Ansys and Autodesk announced the next phase of the partnership, designed to ensure sustainable compatibility of company software products and provide customers with dynamic design processes. Collaboration combines Autodesk Fusion 360's comprehensive design tool and Ansys Mechanical's numerical modeling solution to accelerate the time to market.
When engineers use Fusion 360, the results are automatically available in Ansys Mechanical for further refinement and validation. This flow chart greatly optimizes existing manual processes. It can be combined to improve new automated processes such as generative design, accelerate product launch, and enable multiple engineering teams to work together freely.
This statement is based on a previously announced relationship between Autodesk and Ansys aimed at creating a single workflow for automakers. It combines Autodesk VRED automotive 3D visualization and virtual prototyping software with Ansys solutions for modeling lighting based on physical processes. This will allow automakers to improve the quality of ultra-realistic visualization of the interior and exterior of vehicles using high-precision lighting modeling.
Cooperation with Ansys combines the complimentary technologies and skills of both of our companies in order to strengthen our overall competitive offer, ensure development through more production links and open up great potential for our customers, "said Greg Fallon, vice president of business strategy and marketing at Autodesk. |
The idea and quality of the product is a team sport that engineering barriers can interfere with, "says Shane Emswiller, senior vice president and manager of Ansys. - Working with Autodesk will greatly improve the workflows between our tools, which will benefit our common customers. We hope to help designers and calculators significantly improve product performance, increase efficiency and reliability. |
2018: Access to generative design technology
On May 15, 2018, Autodesk announced that a generative design using artificial intelligence algorithms had become available in the Autodesk Fusion 360 cloud tool . This technology is used to automatically design various products and optimize their properties. The use of technology will help to improve product characteristics, reduce the negative impact on the environment, reduce the cost of assembly and increase the strength of products (by replacing the assembly of several parts of one), the company noted.
According to Autodesk, the generative design allows you to pre-establish product requirements such as material, size, weight, strength, manufacturing methods, and cost limits. Then, using artificial intelligence algorithms and cloud computing, he produces many design options that meet given criteria. Based on this, engineers can choose the options that best meet these requirements. Generative design not only offers what were initially "unthinkable" design options, but also "weaponizes" designers with the data necessary to make informed decisions that meet their needs.
All Fusion 360 Ultimate subscribers can access generative design technology. The "generate" button appears on the toolbar, allowing users to navigate to the Autodesk Generative Design download page.
2017
Two updates released
On November 22, 2017, Autodesk introduced two updates to the Fusion 360 cloud CAD.
Generative design will become available to users. They can work with other CAD formats by associating third-party geometry with native Fusion models.
Generative design
Autodesk's generative design enables you to quickly create and explore design solutions to help you analyze and choose the best value for money. The generative design from Autodesk allows you to explore hundreds and thousands of potential solutions, including those that a person could not come up with.
AnyCAD technology for working with other CAD systems
Autodesk added AnyCAD technology to Fusion 360, formed a level of interoperability in the collection.
AnyCAD radically simplified the design process, allowing you to integrate almost any CAD data into it, regardless of their source. This allowed for seamless interaction between Inventor and other CAD systems, allowing designers to focus on innovation rather than data translation.
AnyCAD technology will ensure compatibility with Inventor and other products in the collection. With this interaction, data will be transmitted in both directions. Users can combine Inventor with Fusion 360 cloud services. They will have access to the tools for the project at any time, no matter what CAD they use.
AnyCAD allows you to use Solidworks data in Inventor and Fusion 360 while maintaining full associativity. Inventor users can import other basic file types, such as Siemens NX, PTC Creo, and other "non-native" formats. This will be possible in Fusion 360.
Expansion from engineers FabLab NITU "MISiS
A team of young engineers FabLab NITU MISiS in early September 2017 presented the Addin script for Autodesk's Fusion 360 program. This is a generator for automatic modeling and design of a box with specified dimensions, which can be manufactured using laser cutting or milling. The idea of the project took 1st place in the competition Forge For Universities ("Forge of 3D Solutions") at the Autodesk Hackathon festival.
According to one of creators of the project, the resident of FabLab of NITU "MISIS" Philip Egorov, "in fablaba and meykerspeysa a frequent task is creation of a box from flat details, for laser cutting or milling. At first glance, this is a simple task, while it takes from one hour or more. Our solution allows you to get ready-made files for the manufacture of a box on a laser cutter or milling machine in a matter of minutes. The user no longer needs to study 3D modeling, only need to enter the parameters of the future box (material thickness, dimensions, etc.). Our team has developed Addin for Fusion 360. The product has already been fully verified and is available for download in the Autodesk App Store. |
The Forge For Universities competition is held by Autodesk among Russian universities in order to increase the motivation of young people to master and use Autodesk cloud products and technologies. The Forge platform is a set cloudy API on the basis of which programmers can create engineering web services and applications. This year, the first place in the Forge ForUniversities competition was taken by the team of Philip Egorov and Timofey Korotkov from the University of NITU MISiS, and as a prize, the guys receive a grant from Autodesk for the further development of the project, "said a senior specialist of partner programs for developers Autodesk Forge and Autodesk Developer Network. Yaroslav Reshetnikov |
Developers continue to optimize the software product, correct bugs and add features, including the multitouch function, which will make large boxes more stable and reliable.
