Ansys Mechanical gives to the user an opportunity of carrying out different calculations within mechanics of continuous medium. It is easy in mastering, the multifunction tool which possibilities can flexibly vary from the simplest engineering calculations on durability for tension express assessment to difficult multidisciplinary tasks.
2020: The improved opportunities for strength calculations
JSC KADFEM Si-Ay-Es, the partner of ANSYS company, announced on January 28, 2020 an exit of release of ANSYS 2020 of R1. Transition to more flexible scheme of licensing for users of software of ANSYS Discovery, ANSYS Fluids and ANSYS Mechanical became the main change. It will allow to minimize inconveniences for clients and also to eliminate need of use of ANSYS Licensing Interconnect.
Further development of the ANSYS Minerva system – the solution based on Web and PLM technologies which first version was submitted to 2019 R3 became important updating. Having succeeded ANSYS EKM, ANSYS Minerva is unified safe environment of joint work, providing interaction of project participants, the given computational modeling and processes at design of a product.
Significant changes received ANSYS Mechanical software, intended for carrying out different calculations within mechanics of continuous medium. Among them:
- The functions and improvements concerning behavior of a product. In particular, the behavior of symmetric contacts changed, there were changes in settings of damping and the application of boundary conditions.
- There were changes in the graphical interface that should increase convenience of work with the software.
- Properties of materials for thermomechanical fatigue, setup of calculations are added by an explicit and implicit method, options of contacts and communications are added.
Possibilities of the module External Model allow to integrate ANSYS Mechanical software into the unified settlement environment including different calculations in other settlement complexes even more.
The External Study Importer ACT expansion allows to open in ANSYS Mechanical complete problem definition from software of Discovery Live and Autodesk Fusion 360 and significantly simplifies interaction of the designer and calculating engineer.
In software the main emphasis was placed by Mechanical APDL on reliability augmentation of contact algorithms – from improvement of logic of recognition of contacts and change of algorithms of calculation before expanded diagnostics of the solution of a task with contacts. Besides, elements, commands and options of calculations with nonlinear adaptation were added. Possibilities of modeling of acoustics, carrying out thermal calculations and silnosvyazanny multidisciplinary calculations were improved. In version 2020 R1 performance of solvers is increased and work in the mode of distributed computing of DMP is improved.
A number of improvements also received:
- ANSYS Autodyn software, used for the analysis of high-speed nonlinear dynamic processes, received changes in a part of work of the distributed solver with the models including the domain SPH.
- Preprocessor of ANSYS Composite PrepPost – regarding rules of the choice concerning coordinate systems and recompilation of the environment of a preprocessor on Python 3.7.4.
Further development and functionality received solutions of ANSYS for additive manufacturing – ANSYS Additive. Among key updates in version 2020 R1 it is possible to note emergence of support of a treelike form for irregular bionic shapes and the Cost Estimator tool for model printing value assessment on the basis of the spent time and settings for the 3D-printer in ANSYS Prep software. Besides, were added function of seamless data transmission to ANSYS Additive (Print and Science) and a number of functions in ANSYS Workbench Additive – from a method of internal deformations and improvement of ANSYS Wizard before emergence of workflow "Additive Print - Workbench Additive for scenarios of undercutting.
Among other solutions which received updates in version 2020 R1:
The solution for the analysis of functional security of systems according to industry standards of security of ANSYS medini analyze. Adding of tools for identification of cyberthreats and the analysis of cyber security on the basis of a model oriyentirovanno of the system approach conforming to the standard of cyber security of ISO 21434 and other related standards became the main change.
The products ANSYS for work with geometry and creation of a grid. Solutions of this category can be integrated with a number of CAD systems now. Besides, instruments of work with topology, Weld Control and Batch Connections in ANSYS Meshing were improved and also the ANSYS ICEM CFD functions are improved.
Availability
The distribution kit of the version of ANSYS 2020 R1 is available to loading in appropriate section of ANSYS Customer Portal and also at offices of JSC KADFEM Si-Ay-Es company. Receiving license opportunities requires updating of the server of licenses to the version of ANSYS 2020 of R1. The current license files (for ANSYS 2019 R3) will continue to work with the new manager of licenses without the need for their updating.
Licensing options regarding the solutions ANSYS Mechanical will be available only after updating of the manager of licenses and license files to the version of ANSYS 2020 of R1.

Compatibility with Ansys Mechanical
The companies Ansys Autodesk announced also on November 21, 2019 the next stage of the partnership designed to provide steady compatibility of software products of the companies and to provide to clients dynamic design processes. Cooperation connects the complex tool for design Autodesk Fusion 360 and the solution Ansys Mechanical for computational modeling to accelerate production on the market. In more detail here.

For November, 2019 possibilities of Ansys Mechanical include:
- Static calculations
- Structural efficiency determination — the most widespread type of calculations within mechanics of a deformable solid body which is carried out by engineers of all industries. Ansys Mechanical provides a possibility of calculation of the intense deformed status (IDS) of construction of any complexity.
- Dynamic calculations
- The resonance is one of the most dangerous phenomena in the equipment. An opportunity to learn structure of natural frequencies of construction will allow to avoid emergence of a resonance, having provided high reliability of construction and long term of service. For the solution of this task in Ansys Mechanical the possibility of carrying out the modal analysis — the analysis of natural frequencies and forms of fluctuations of constructions is implemented.
- Thermal calculations
- As a rule, a main objective of problems of heat exchange is determination of fields of temperatures and heat fluxes as in separate parts, and the whole units or constructions. In Ansys Mechanical it is possible to simulate 3 types of heat exchange: heat conductivity of isotropic or orthotropic material, convective heat exchange and heat exchange by radiation with the environment and/or between the surfaces of bodies.
- Acoustic calculations
- Ansys Mechanical allows to execute acoustic calculations for the purpose of determination of natural frequencies of acoustic volumes and a response of the environment to acoustic excitation. One of widespread use of acoustic calculations is echolocation — determination of an acoustic field of dispersion of objects of a different form.
