2014: Crimean crisis hits ANSYS business in Europe
In Q1 2014 ON , ANSYS sales in Europe via indirect channel were lower than planned. This negatively affected the growth rate of the company's turnover throughout the region, according to ANSYS reports for the American Securities Commission (SEC).
It is also noted that this situation was especially pronounced in Russia. A combination of geopolitical and currency factors, which intensified by the end of the 1st quarter, is cited as its reasons in ANSYS. In particular, the unstable situation in Russia, Ukraine and Crimea, which resulted in various sanctions against Russia.
During the discussion of Q1 2014 results with investors in May, the ANSYS representative mentioned that the impact of these factors in the reporting period is estimated for the company in millions of dollars.
According to the results of Q1 2013, ANSYS, on the contrary, noted an increase in business volumes in Russia and indicated it in its reports as one of the drivers of turnover growth in Europe. The significant growth of ANSYS business in Eastern Europe, primarily in Russia, was also noted in 2012.
Unlike Q1 2013 and all subsequent reporting periods, ANSYS predicts that the growth of its business in Europe can now be expected to slow down until geopolitical tensions in Russia are resolved and sanctions imposed due to them are lifted, ANSYS reports for the SEC.
Due to the fact that it is not clear when these problems will be resolved, the company emphasizes the possibility of continuing to negatively affect its performance and cash flows in Europe.
At the same time, ANSYS expects that improved sales in the Benelux countries, as well as in Italy and Spain, can partially correct this situation.
