On December 3, 2015 it became known of the project of upgrade of network infrastructure in an IT environment of the engineering Stroyproyekt group. Works were carried out by Komplit company integrator[1].
Project Tasks
The company gradually brought closer and at some point came up against a situation when the outdate infrastructure and the diverse equipment ceased to meet the modern requirements of working capacity and functionality. Use of devices and the systems of different producers conducted to high housekeeping overheads of network. The company solved problems of unification and carried out upgrade of local area networks (LAN) prior to the beginning of the project, but the question of optimal adjustment of configurations remained open. Other segments of the corporate data network (CDN) continued to work on diverse devices and systems. Communication channels had no guaranteed quality of service. The WAN network integrating the distributed offices operated on the diverse equipment.
Resolving tasks of upgrade of network it was required to reorganize a LAN of the central office and divisions for compliance to modern requirements for reservation, fault tolerance, ensuring quality of service and to integrate territorially remote offices in the protected network, to organize safe connection of remote workers to information resources and services of the company, to organize a wireless network. The plan provided reduction of the park of diverse network equipment, implementation of monitoring systems for cost optimization on providing access and information exchange.
With the contractor in the project the Komplit company worked. Had experience of cooperation of the company earlier. One of the main requirements of the customer - to reduce idle times of basic processes during works to minimize their influence on core business of group.
Project Progress
With participation of the Komplit system integrator the group completed the project of upgrade of network infrastructure, eliminated heterogeneity of the park of network equipment by means of its unification. At the same time work with branches was conducted far off.
The project mentioned all existing network infrastructure. Works were carried out to after hours for business structures of the customer, with the smallest downtime of IT services.
Upon completion of inspection of the operating structure of a corporate data network, specialists of the contractor developed and began implementation of the plan of upgrade. The purchased equipment was delivered to St. Petersburg where it was configured and sent to regional divisions. Works on a configuration of network were carried out far off from the central office. The project is implemented in three stages, one network segment is involved in each of which.
In the beginning carried out reorganization of a LAN, including works on planning, setup of network equipment and documentation of functions.
The next stage upgraded a segment of WAN. Between remote offices of Stroyproyekt unrolled VPN network and organized the protected remote access on the basis of Cisco technologies to corporate resources and DMZ services (the demilitarized zone), protection of a local computer network of the central office of the company against unauthorized access is provided.
The third stage resolved questions of wireless communication – a covering Wi-fi network of conference rooms, VIP-zones, negotiation and other places counting upon the high density of client devices. For network infrastructure the systems of centralized operation on the basis of Cisco Prime Infrastructure were implemented, the quality system of service in the local area network and channels of virtual private networks using the Cisco models is unrolled.
Project Results
Stanislav Kalashnik, the head of department of infrastructure solutions of management of information technologies of the engineering Stroyproyekt group, noted:
- First, change of network topology and addressing is carried out, dynamic routing is implemented. Secondly, diverse routers are replaced with the same replicated solution of Cisco. Thirdly, reservation of a core of network, routers and data transmission channels at the central office is made. And, at last, joining of the modules WAN and LAN constructed on the equipment of several vendors is implemented.
Complete upgrade of network infrastructure of the engineering Stroyproyekt group is carried out.
