Example of the analysis of license compliance of Microsoft solution Assessment and Planning Tool (MAP)

In January, 2016 Softline was announced project completion of SAM Cloud Ready according to the analysis of cloud services and license compliance of the software of Microsoft in "Phoenix Car by Logistik". As a result the customer received the status report on program assets and readiness of transition of IT infrastructure for use of cloud services.

"Phoenix car Logistik" is included into automobile holding in the Omsk region. The structure of Phoenix Car group includes regional official dealers of global manufacturers of a car - and motor-technicians. In addition, the company is a wholesale supplier of spare parts and supplies, auto chemical goods, engine oil.

"Phoenix car Logistik" uses cloud solutions of Microsoft and plans further development of IT based on products of vendor. With respect thereto it was important to company management to define readiness of infrastructure for implementation of cloud computing and also to economically prove placement of IT services in Azure cloud.

The main objectives facing specialists of Softline within the SAM Cloud Ready project were:

  • assessment of a current status of contracts for the software of Microsoft;
  • identification of number of relevant licenses and the used software of Microsoft;
  • analysis of the current legal and license risks; development of recommendations about the organization of IT infrastructure in Azure cloud;
  • the analysis of opportunities of economy due to transfer of the most part of applications in DPC and further failure from local infrastructure.

For carrying out the analysis of license compliance specialists used the solution Assessment and Planning Tool (MAP) recommended to Microsoft. During the project audit of license purity of the desktop systems working running Microsoft Windows, the server hardware, the Microsoft SQL databases, office applications was booked. The analysis of program assets allowed to set precisely the volume of software used by the customer and to draw a conclusion on the standardized SAM level and level of license compliance.

In project completion specialists of Softline provided to the customer the report in which the recommendations about optimization and support of IT infrastructure were reflected. Also the detailed plan of transition to higher level of development of processes of SAM was developed.

"The company needed to cut down expenses on IT infrastructure and to increase its flexibility. The implemented project allowed us to make the plan for further migration in a cloud. In the long term it will provide transparency in management of IT infrastructure and also will increase predictability of costs for its service", - the customer representative, the director of business development Valery Bikbulatov told.
