The project of creation the intranet portal on Microsoft SharePoint 2013 in Nordgold

For increase in efficiency of interaction of staff of the company with each other and creations of uniform access point of employees of different business units to all internal resources of the company, the management of Nordgold made the decision on implementation of the multilingual internal portal on the Microsoft SharePoint 2013 platform. For the choice of the partner in implementation among the large domestic IT companies the open competition was held. The TOPS Consulting company (since 2015 enters into Consist Business Group) became the winner of competition.

Project Tasks

Our main task was in creating a common information space for the staff of all enterprises of the company from the different countries. The portal is the important instrument of internal communications, he helps to improve dialog with employees, creates convenient space for communication, strengthening thereby corporate culture, and that is especially important, increases effective management of projects and accelerates decision making process Darya Grigorieva, the chief of the department on internal communications and sustainable development of Nordgold

Project Progress

Within the project specialists of Consist Business Group developed a solution architecture, created design of the portal according to corporate stylistics of Nordgold and performed migration of legacy content. Supplements the portal the adapted mobile version for tablets. The solution is integrated with internal systems of the company – the ERP system of SAP, an electronic document management system and the system of corporate training. It allows the staff of the company to work with corporate applications in the single interface. Joint work of users over documents is conducted using flexible access isolation: accounts of users of the portal are integrated with the directories (Microsoft Active Directory) distributed by services of management.

Thanks to directory synchronization and use of standard templates the portal functions in 3 languages – Russian, English and French. The corporate help system doing search of necessary information convenient and fast became an important part of the portal. Within the project the different services providing interaction of employees, in particular the module "Projects" allowing to manage work of big groups are implemented.

During the project cloud computing of Microsoft was actively applied: at a stage of trial operation of a new system the portal was placed in a cloud of Microsoft based on virtual servers in Microsoft Azure that allowed to begin trial operation of a system quicker and with the minimum costs. Works on creation of a cloud IT environment and setup of the required SharePoint configuration were performed by a project team from Nordgold. At an operation stage the portal was translated to internal infrastructure of the company.

In order that users of Nordgold as soon as possible mastered all functions of the portal, at a grade level the project team developed the interactive user instruction. It shows systems capabilities and basic functions of the portal and also a circle of tasks which employees can solve with its help. Such format of training of the managements of users and content editors is one of elements of an implementation methodology of the portal solutions TOPS Consulting "Consist Business Group" and becomes more and more demanded tool for replication of knowledge in the companies creating portals together with consultants.

All goals set for the project were achieved, the portal becomes the working platform for all staff of the company, including mobile users, regardless of their location.
