Volvo "without key": Phone as key A-Roll

Within decades drivers got used to use keys or charms for opening/closing of door locks in the car and engine start. But everything changes. Volvo Cars in 2017 is going to offer the machines without physical keys.

To clients of Volvo there will be well special application which they will be able to install in the mobile phones. This application will allow to replace physical keys digital. The technology of digital keys using Bluetooth technology will give to buyers of the Volvo cars more opportunities – they will get many advantages, including new methods of sharing of machines.

The Volvo application allocates a digital key in the mobile phone of the user with all functions which are performed now by a physical key, for example, blocking and an unblocking of door locks, the lock of a trunk lid and engine start.

The technology is also capable to provide to clients of Volvo more than one digital a key, and it means that users will be able to get access to different cars of the Swedish brand which are in different places that will conform to requirements of users.

Using the application, people will be able to armor and pay car rental worldwide, and the digital key will be immediately directed to their mobile phone. On arrival the client by means of a GPS system will be able easily to find the car rented by him, to open doors and to go to a trip. It will allow to avoid queues at racks of car rental agencies at the airports and at railway stations.

The technology using the digital Volvo Cars keys will make process of sharing of cars simple and convenient. Owners of the Volvo cars will be able to send the digital keys to other people on their mobile phones, and those, in turn, will be able to use without effort machines – it can be family members, friends or colleagues.

Volvo will start testing of this technology in the spring of 2016: for the first time it will appear in the test mode in vehicle fleet of the company on car rental of Sunfleet which offers the services at the airport of Gothenburg (Sweden). In 2017 the limited number available to car sale will be equipped with digital keys.
