The institute was created the 80-h-beginning of the 90th years based on successfully working in the field of diagnostics of physical processes and the technical systems of the temporary research and production collective consisting of representatives of industry, high school and academic science at the end. An initiator of creation of institute is f. - m of N, the academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Moscow Braginsky Alexander Pavlovich who made a big contribution to development of statistical techniques of processing of diagnostic data in a research of physics of processes of acoustic emission at "structural adjustments" in materials. A.P. Braginsky developed interpretative approaches based on a research of degree of correlation of issue radiation. In September, 1990 under its management and on the basis of its scientific ideas important practical works on a research of the reasons and mechanisms of serial destructions of main gas pipelines near Krasnoturyinsk were performed (Northern Urals). In November, 1990 these approaches allowed to warn a stop of the Orenburg gas processing plant and to avoid destruction of cleaning units from mercaptans. In April, 1991 the Presidium of the Moscow Council, on representation of Committees on science and ecology, adopted the Resolution on creation of Institute of physical diagnostics and modeling. Within 2 years the institute had the form of small enterprise, then, in connection with change of the legislation, was re-registered in a form of non-commercial enterprise. In 2002 passed departments of diagnostics and standardization of the oil and gas equipment of JSC Vniineftemash into institute.
