The South Korean company TmaxSoft released in the spring of 2016 the TmaxOS operating system using which wants to press Windows in the world market. A system is based on Unix, has own browser and a packet of office applications. It is going to let out her in October, 2016[1].
TmaxSoft founded in 1997 is known, first of all, as the developer of the database management systems (DMS) and the cross-platform software. A flagship product of the company- DBMS Tibero. In Russia this DBMS is implemented in infrastructure to the National Payment Card System, in several state departments and the large companies. In the middle of 2015 the Russian representative office of TmaxSoft made the decision on fixation of dollar exchange rate at sale of the products to the Russian customers.
The CEO of TmaxSoft the Park Haque-Ry (Park Hak-Rae) reported that at the TmaxOS operating system two purposes. The first purpose — to stimulate development of local market of the software. According to him, the market of software in South Korea does not develop because there is no standardization. "TmaxOS is the standardized operating system" — he added.
The second purpose — to press Microsoft in the world market of operating systems which volume is $20 billion a year. TmaxSoft expects to occupy 10% of this market by the end of 2020. Now Windows occupies 90.45%, OS X — 7.77%, Linux — 1.78%.
Broad compatibility
In order that TmaxOS was in demand, the developer equipped it with own ToGate browser and a packet of office applications of TmaxOffice including the ToWord text editor, a spreadsheet processor of ToCell and the editor of the presentations of ToPoint.
TmaxOS operating system
The CEO of TmaxSoft explained that with TmaxOS release they will receive "a full-fledged three-component software platform" (OS, office, the browser) which will simplify gaining the market.
Besides, the company provided compatibility of all these products with popular ecosystems. Based on Unix, the TmaxOS operating system supports applications from Android, iOS and Windows (the company did not specify how it is implemented). In turn, TmaxOffice supports work with files in the Microsoft Office formats.
Road map
In July, 2016 TmaxSoft is going to release the beta of TmaxOS. The final release is planned for October, 2016.
TmaxOS will be free for private users. The developer will levy a payment from the commercial organizations.
