"Duck-bill" completed migration of the systems of SAP on Exadata

Utkonos company, the Internet hypermarket providing services of the product delivery of a power supply and joint products on the house on Moscow and the Moscow region selected Oracle Exadata Database Machine X5 as the strategic hardware-software platform for key business systems.

Due to the general growth of retail business and perspective of its expansion, the IT department of the company initiated the project of upgrade of infrastructure of the SAP solutions functioning on the Oracle Database platform.

The total amount of databases of the company including all environments for development, testing and commercial operation of applications is tens a terrabyte. As a result of more than semi-annual work including testing, development of target IT architecture and protection of the solution on investment committee, the Utkonos company made the decision on transfer of a hardware platform of a business system of the enterprise from the available equipment on Oracle Exadata Database Machine X5.

We approached the choice of the platform which should become a basis of growth of business of Utkonos company, with the greatest possible care. During preparation we held testing of a hardware and software system which showed 12-fold performance improvement of our systems in comparison with the current infrastructure. I consider that transition to Oracle Exadata Database Machine will become one of the largest and effective upgrades of IT infrastructure of the company for the last few years. Project Results

On December 22, 2016 the RCNTEC company announced project completion of migration of the systems of SAP on Oracle Exadata in Utkonos online hypermarket.

Our specialists were trained in SAP training centers and implemented tens of projects on implementation of systems based on a SAP software. The total amount of productive databases in Duck-bill at the time of transfer on the new platform was 11 Tb. As these systems are critical for business, possible runtime of migration was designated by the Customer as 90 minutes on all databases combined. In the presence of network only 1gbit/with migration by standard means of export/import or copying with converting of tabular spaces did not keep within the set restrictions in any way. Specialists of RCNTEC implemented the scenario of cross-platform migration of databases using Oracle Golden Gate. Test transfer was carried out, the procedure of check of consistency of the transferred data is developed and optimized. As a result the project on transfer of databases on the Oracle Exadata/x86 platform was successfully executed, and time of unavailability did not exceed the allotted 90 minutes.
