2018: Discovery MI DR

As of August, 2018, GE Discovery MI DR represents the hybrid scanner consisting of the 128-slice multispiral computer tomograph and the positron and issue tomograph. It is completely digital hybrid device intended for molecular visualization.

Discovery MI DR

Discovery MI DR is capable to diagnose cancer at early stages, to define disease stages and also to keep track of efficiency of the carried-out treatment. According to the producer, the highly sensitive modern detectors installed on the equipment and resolution capability allow to detect tumors with a diameter from 2−3 mm at the earliest stages of a disease.

The device Discovery MI DR was released by GE Healthcare company in 2018.

2016: Announcement of Discovery MI

In June, 2016 the GE Healthcare company provided the system of the positron emission tomography combined with a computer tomography (PET/KT). The innovation which received the name Discovery MI is announced at an annual congress of Community of radio nuclide medicine and molecular visualization (Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, SNMMI) in San Diego (the State of California, the USA).

The device uses the corporate digital detector GE LightBurst PET allowing to execute scanning in a half of a radiation dose and with the minimum costs of time in comparison with the standard systems. Discovery MI can adjust the movement, executing visualization of a chest cavity.

Also innovation received Q.Clear technology, helping doctors to detect small damages of an organism due to scanning in very high resolution and precisely to estimate efficiency of treatment at all stages. The producer claims that the equipment can be used to carrying out quantitative analysis at a brain research.

Besides, in Discovery MI the technology of adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction of ASIR which gives the chance to receive hi-res pictures at the beam loading reduced to 40% found application. At last, a system received new generation of iterative reconstruction of ASIR-V which allows to reduce beam loading to 80%.

As of June 15, 2016 Discovery MI undergoes certification in Management on control of foodstuff and medicines of the USA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, FDA). After obtaining permission the product will be able to appear in medical institutions.

In GE Healthcare claim that the Discovery MI system is capable to expand the number of services in the field of medical diagnostics, to improve skills of specialists in treatment of oncological diseases and to open new opportunities of use of a positron emission tomography in neurology, cardiology and other areas.[1]
