Avaya optimized a data transmission system of Novosibirsk subway

The Avaya company, global solution provider in the field of business communications, implemented the project on implementation of new network infrastructure for Novosibirsk Subway Municipal Unitary Enterprise. Thanks to solutions based on Avaya Fabric Connect technology the enterprise managed to upgrade a data transmission system, having raised the security level and having optimized work of the subway.

The municipal unitary enterprise of the city of Novosibirsk Novosibirsk subway is engaged in operation of the high-speed rail transport system, the staff totals 1,578 people. Optimization of a data transmission system for smooth operation of IT infrastructure of the subway in any, even supernumerary, situations became the main objective set by Novosibirsk subway. It was required to reduce human, time and finance costs by ensuring effective operation of network.

The available automatic control system technology processes, safety and video surveillances ceased to correspond to the needs for ensuring capacity and also required serious costs at failure of its separate nodes. Transition to traditional Ethernet technology also did not answer tasks of the enterprise in view of complexity of network topology and need of integration of its components constructed on the equipment of different producers. Essentially new solution which would not require global costs was necessary, but would ensure smooth operation of IT infrastructure of the subway even at failure of its separate nodes and also minimized costs for administration and routine maintenance along with providing the required security level.

The choice fell on Avaya company. Thanks to modern solutions of Avaya and Fabric Connect technology the distributed system of data transmission which brought subway IT infrastructure into accord with the set requirements was developed for Novosibirsk subway.

In the project progress the existing communication channels at all stations and in the stretches between them were upgraded, the core of a data network in the administrative building of Novosibirsk subway was replaced and also aggregation level on stations using the solutions Avaya Fabric Connect is partially implemented.

The Avaya Fabric Connect technology is included into family of network solutions Avaya and represents expanded implementation of the Shortest Path Bridging standard (IEEE 802.1aq). She does not demand setup of transfer of packets from one physical device to another on all intermediate devices in network. Network services abstract from the physical layer and are provided in the form of the unified processes. Instead of use of a set of the protocols complicating administration of network, a new solution of Avaya creates the uniform virtual level of management for all network, explained in the company. Thanks to the uniform IS-IS protocol the Avaya Fabric Connect technology replaces all normal protocols with one that, in fact, cardinally changes methodology of setup of a configuration and selection of resources.

Transmission broad banding, increase in degree of uninterrupted operation of functioning of network, reducing costs for the current administration and network maintenance and also decrease in probability of the failures connected with errors at administration became results of implementation of new network infrastructure of Avaya. Due to automatic balancing of loading and involvement at the same time of all available optical communication links work of all network is optimized. Besides, the base for flexible and operational implementation of virtual services completely independent from each other, such as video surveillance, consolidation LAN, VoIP and others was put.
