Fabric Networking is an open architecture of software-defined networks (SDN) by means of which the companies will have an opportunity to organize networks for work of modern applications.

On March 3, 2015 the Avaya company provided an open architecture of Fabric Networking. The architecture of software-defined networks with the expanded structure became the architecture providing simplicity of technology of connection "to connect anything, anywhere", reducing time of automation and allowing without to add to network of the device, on the network periphery[1] users].

The architecture of software-defined networks with the expanded structure on the basis of Avaya Fabric Networking technology, includes a number of products and opportunities, in fact the ready-made complete solution executing everything that is promised by software-defined networks.

As a part of architecture of software-defined networks with the expanded structure:

  • Open Networking Adapter is the open network adapter (ONA), provides network connection of plug-n-play of any device with Ethernet port, including the medical equipment, machines for large-lot production and switches. The device focused on users of the size of a pack automatically creates the QoS-configured virtual route on network which reduces risks of security, providing full-function control of thousands of devices.

  • Fabric Orchestrator is the SDN controller which is built in a copy of a system of shared control. The device manages and will organize Ethernet-structures, helps to use SDN Control in northern and southern interfaces. As a part of its OpenFlow, OpenDaylight and OpenStack SDN functions.

  • Fabric Extend is the function as a part of Avaya Fabric Connect technology providing expansibility of Fabric Networking technology within any IP network without loss of functionality.

The architecture of software-defined networks with the expanded structure of Avaya company is based on three basic principles meeting expectations of the IT departments considering the possibility of transition to software-defined networks:

  • The automated core, ispolzuyuoyee advantages of uniform network Ethernet-structure also eliminates need of manual adjustment on each network transit section, thereby reducing the probability of emergence of an error and reducing time necessary for service.

  • The open ecosystem using the standard structural protocols connected with open interfaces and tools of a custom configuration with an open source code which allow IT specialists quickly accurately and flexibly to react to the changing business requirements.

  • The involved periphery - uses expansion of structure outside DPC and brings her to the user periphery that just allows quickly and to connect applications, devices and users in any place of network, to implement interaction for creation of a flexible and productive business environment.

The architecture of software-defined networks with the expanded structure from Avaya company can be applied in case of ensuring support of security and mobility of the devices which are connected to constantly growing Internet of physical entities (Internet of Things).

For example, the Wednesday used in hospitals on production sites and in casino. They are characterized by existence of a large number of devices.

These devices need safer and mobile connection to network. It is required that the rest of network was better protected from potential threats which emergence they can provoke.

Similarly use by contact centers of the employees working from the house involves growth of expenses and operating costs as requires selection of resources for ensuring more secure access to client information and observance of information security policy.  Using architecture of software-defined networks with the expanded structure the small network adapter provides to the network founded on the device or the user ID, the automated and dynamic connectivity, mobility and certain security.

The adapter returns to home position and is switched-off after removal from the environment. It allows to remove issues of installation processes since end users can just connect adapters from IT specialists, and the automated process will carry out setup of the device without participation of the person.

Avaya Fabric Connect

The Avaya Fabric Connect technology is included into family of network solutions Avaya and represents expanded implementation of the Shortest Path Bridging standard (IEEE 802.1aq). She does not demand setup of transfer of packets from one physical device to another on all intermediate devices in network. Network services abstract from the physical layer and are provided in the form of the unified processes. Instead of use of a set of the protocols complicating administration of network, a new solution of Avaya creates the uniform virtual level of management for all network, explained in the company. Thanks to the uniform IS-IS protocol the Avaya Fabric Connect technology replaces all normal protocols with one that, in fact, cardinally changes methodology of setup of a configuration and selection of resources.
