2016: Acquisition of 50% of BSS company
In July, 2016 the Proyekt-PIR company founded by the former head of UEC Alexey Popov became the owner of 50% of BSS - developer of IT solutions for the financial sector. The second half belongs to Dmitry Stefanchuk who is also a founder BSS Security.
"Proyekt-PIR" together with the Swiss company Spitch develop products for speech recognition and voice verification. Alexey Popov holds a position of the CEO in Spitch.
BSS is the official representative and the distributor of Spitch in Russia and the CIS countries. Before transition in 2005 to civil service in Federal Treasury Alexey Popov held a position of the CEO of BSS. Then Dmitry Stefanchuk was appointed to this position.
The software package Spitch developed with participation "PIR Project" and advanced by BSS includes the solutions Spitch VeryFI (confirmation of the personality on a voice), Spitch CodyFI (automatic conversion of the speech to text record) and Spitch SignyFI (determination of sense of the speech and selection of semantic tags). The software supports six languages.
On the website of BSS it is said that voice technologies can be applied in online banking and call centers to access control and security and also to development of personal offers on the basis of the analysis of telephone conversations.
In BSS at the request of TAdviser could not comment on the transaction with "Proyekt-PIR". Alexey Popov also did not want to tell about it.
According to Contour-Focus base, since December, 2015 instead of Alexey Yuryevich Popov Popov Yury Vladimirovich is registered as the founder of "Proyekt-PIR".
The source familiar with Alexey Popov's activity told TAdviser that, despite transfer of the company on other individual, he actively is engaged in development of "Proyekt-PIR" and promotion of solutions on voice recognition through BSS.
2015: Shift: development of a "disruptive" product
In September, 2015 Alexey Popov left a post of the president of "UEC" and the vice president of Sberbank. After that he expressed the intentions[1] to focus on work in The Project — PIR home company.
By that moment in an incubator "the Project — PIR" continued to be grown up several small startups. However that in Russia very serious organizations which are engaged in similar things very professionally managed to appear lately (for example, Internet Initiatives Development Fund as which member of council Popov acts), Popov for himself perspective did not consider this activity any more.
According to Popov, "the Project — PIR" now completely focused on the "disruptive" project connected with sensing technologies of the speech and verification (identification, determination of accessory to the particular person) voices. The main focus of developments - recognition of true sense of the said phrases.
Product scopes
Sensing technologies of the speech are demanded in the b2b market: for example, among the organizations trying to unload the call centers. First of all, it is about large client banks which want to save on staff of operators and to increase satisfaction of users. Besides banks often implement the voice interface in remote servicing systems (in particular, in mobile bank — for implementation of payments and transfers in the hendsfr mode).
Speech recognition is relevant also for mobile operators, insurance companies and medical institutions. In the latter case time of the qualified doctors who are forced to enter manually to databases results of the communication with patients is saved. On Popov's assurance, the technologies developed by his company allow the machine to isolate independently sense from dialog of the doctor and the patient, and the medic needs only to check then correctness of interpretation of information.
One more circle of potential clients "the Project — PIR" — state agencies for which not only speech recognition, but also its above-mentioned verification in the long term will begin to matter: "The voice of the person (its digital typos) in the context of our legislation is equivalent the simple electronic signature — Popov says. — So having the relevant general base, state institutions could involve it as an alternative to registration procedure of citizens, uses of passwords and so forth — for example, within the electronic government, when rendering state services", Alexey Popov explained.
Business abroad
According to Popov, he initially conceived the project as international. Abroad the main partner "the Project — PIR" is the Swiss company Spitch which is based in Zurich. Since October, 2015 Popov holds a position of the CEO in it.
Then Popov said that engineers-mathematicians and programmers from Russia and Switzerland are engaged at technology level in the project.
2012: Foundation of the company
In July, 2012 Alexey Popov founded Proyekt-PIR company. He became her CEO. According to Popov[2], initially the company thought as R&D-лаборатория, focused on the IT companies and other structures interested in R&D".
"Proyekt-PIR" will bring the different IT ideas to the level of startups: "Some kind of sieve and an incubator for different IT innovations", Alexey Popov said.
In September, after appointment as the vice president of Sberbank, Popov left a post of the CEO of "Proyekt-PIR", having appointed instead of himself Elena Sakharova who worked as the chief financial officer of BSS company before.
