2020: The airports in Russia pass to digital observation of flights

On January 27, 2020 it became known of transition of the Russian airports to digital observation of flights. By request FEDERAL STATE UNITARY ENTERPRISE "State corporation on air traffic management" and under control of JSC Almaz-Antey Concern the integrated multiposition observation system behind MPSN the Almanac aircrafts was unrolled and put into operation in eight air harbors located in Novosibirsk Yekaterinburg, Kazan To Samara, Tyumen and Kaliningrad. On February 10, 2017 the Digital Radio Engineering Systems company provided the integrated multiposition observation system behind air traffic of MPSN "Almanac".

In December, 2016 we some of the first received the certificate of Rosaviatsiya on multiposition observation system Almanac which we called integrated because its equipment incorporates functions of a broadband system for observation of a route, airfield zone and a zone of approach and function of a control system of keeping of height (HMU) and also observation for A-SMGCS of 2-4 levels.

"Almanac" has configurations for work, both in passive, and in active the modes. In an active mode a system is functionally similar to the secondary radar of mode S, but with a possibility of higher rate of data-refresh and lack of need to select codes[1].

Thanks to mode S we can receive from a board and transfer to the automation equipment information on navigation parameters (speeds, maneuvering parameters), expanded identification, intentions (set pressure, the selected height, route points), meteodata (for automation of onboard meteorological observation).

Feature of the integrated MPSN "Almanac" - compliance to the relevant international standards Eurocae ED-117, Eurocae ED-129A and ED-142. According to assurances of the head of TsRTS, a system showed "... the characteristics several times exceeding requirements of these standards".

Integration of functions in one system:

  • Broadband MPSN (in an airfield, route zone of approach)
  • MPSN on a surface of airfield (AMPSN) for ASMGCS
  • MPSN for HMU (control of keeping of height)
  • Network of AZN-V stations of the ED-129/DO-260B level
  • Does not concede to foreign analogs
  • MPSN in and / p by Varadero, Cuba is put into operation
  • The fragment of a system is set and started in and / p by Pulkovo, passes tests


Structure of broadband MPSN

  • receiving stations (≥4), COTA-X1, COTA-X4 AZN-V 1090ES stations can be used, accept, decode signals from onboard defendants
  • transmitting stations (requesters) request in the selected modes
  • control and reference defendants (optional), source of signals of control and synchronization
  • the MPSN server, calculation of coordinates, control, system management, transfer of the output data for an ACS
