2017: Cryptographic protection of air navigation infrastructure

The Tsifrovye radiotekhnicheskiye sistemy (NPP TsRTS) scientific and production enterprise announced at the beginning of a year sales opportunities of cryptographic schemes of ensuring integrity and masking of information transferred on channels 1090ES, including mode S, on the basis of the existing regulating documents and domestic cryptoalgorithms. About how to neutralize cyberthreats for air navigation infrastructure, experts of the company will tell at a conference of State Civil Aviation Research Institute "Aviation cyber security" which will take place in Moscow on February 15-16.

"The existing regulatory base on protection of information infrastructure not fully reflects model of functioning of a system "the communication navigation observation (CNS) which is in fact set of a number of systems of different function. Based on the opportunities studied by us, we suggest to develop the industry model of threats considering need of open interaction with the aircraft of foreign production and also standard requirements for information security to systems functioning for the benefit of the ATC", - Sergey Bybin, the associate director of the development center of NPP TsRTS told.
According to him, need of creation of standard recommendations about data protection at implementation of intersystem information exchange ripened for a long time: "Today information security of flights of civil aviation – an Achilles' heel for the industry. It is enough to remember an incident in Melbourne at the end of last year when the radio hooligan interrupted plane landing, having pretended to be the air traffic controller. De facto, the aircraft is not protected from noises and unauthorized interventions in communication "the pilot dispatching service". The situation in observation systems and navigation also leaves much to be desired. The existing CNS technologies are not capable to provide independently an imitostoykost at external influences. At present an inspection on false information is carried out at the level of phraseology, from it responsibility of the air traffic controller which according to the speech of the interlocutor should be able to find the malefactor is high. At implementation of specifics load of the manager will be reduced and the security of flights, and together with it and safety of air traffic will significantly increase".
