VTB upgrades a private cloud based on servers of domestic assembly

VTB 24 bank purchases servers and DWH of the Russian assembly of Yadro together with the preset software of IBM and is going to transfer to them the information systems. On June 1, 2017 the credit institution selected the supplier of this equipment and services.^[1]

Contractor Selection

Fight for the contract with the initial cost of $30.4 million (about 1.7 billion rubles) was conducted among three companies - Technoserv, Jet Infosystems and IBS Platformix. Requests of applicants were estimated by two criteria. The main (60% of the importance) – the cost of the equipment and works. The second criterion (40%) - existence of the operating partner status of Yadro company.

The status of the partner was available for all three participants. As a result by this criterion all companies got the maximum point. By criterion of cost got the maximum number of points Technoserv which estimated the contract at $29.3 million (about 1.66 billion rubles at the rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation on 6/1/2017). Jet Infosystems offered $29.7 million, IBS Platformix - $29.8 million.

Thus, the Technoserv company became the winner.

Terms of the contract

Within 8 weeks from signature date of the contract the customer expects to receive all equipment and certificates of technical support. Within 20 weeks it is required to perform all works - installation, installation and a commissioning of the equipment and also migration of information systems.

The customer is going to receive in different configurations of 8 servers of the senior P1-80A Yadro level, 6 servers of the average level P1-50A, 2 storage systems of SH1-7 with support for 3 years and also 12 mounting cabinets 42U.

Purchase of VTB

Earlier, at the end of 2016 the VTB bank bought the Yadro servers for 1.7 billion rubles. Within delivery the financial institution received 16 sets of the equipment, including 7 sets of the P1-80A servers, 7 sets of mounting cabinets and other components.

Producer

Yadro is the Russian producer of servers, storage systems, the software and specialized computer systems. The company became the first Russian OEM partner of IBM who received the certificate on component assembly of servers based on Power processors and storage systems under own brand. Assembly includes a full stroke from installation of crucial components in the net module, activation of processors and memory, before complex testing, installation of the localized software and check of electric security. Production capacities of Yadro allow to assemble at the same time up to 128 servers a day.

Start of the project

On August 23, 2017 the VTB Group announced start of the project on upgrade of infrastructure of RISC servers of a private cloud on servers and storage systems of the Russian assembly of Yadro. The project is implemented by the global Retail business line of VTB Group together with Technoserv IT integrator.

Project Tasks

Cloud infrastructure of the retail direction is based on two independent platforms of VTB Group. The project task — to increase the computing power, a scaling option and reliability of IT infrastructure which is a basis for business and critical IT systems of GBL "Retail" of VTB Group.

The integrator of the project on a competitive basis selected Technoserv IT company which provides delivery, installation, installation and a commissioning of the equipment and also migration of information systems of bank.

Migration will affect more than 20 IT systems of retail of VTB Group and will be executed at their duplication on two geographically spaced platforms.

Consolidation of all equipment on Enterprise pool technology which allows to move activation of main cores between server resources for flexible use of the purchased capacities will become feature of the project.

We move to a new level of the RISC platform for business and critical IT systems which allows to reduce total cost of ownership and to increase reliability of a complex in general — the board member, the director of the department of banking and information technologies of VTB 24 Sergey Rusanov noted. — We pay much attention to questions of import substitution both the software, and the equipment. It is one of the reasons for which the bank stopped the choice on the equipment of domestic assembly for our private cloud.

Business of our customer incessantly grows. It requires not only timely upgrade of infrastructure, but also increase in its efficiency — the senior vice president of Technoserv Group Evgeny Zakrepin said. — This project which will allow not only to migrate all systems of bank on the platform of new generation is directed to it, but also will create a possibility of its use with time and other structures of VTB Group.
