Gazprom Neft implements artificial intelligence with assistance of "Yandex"

Within the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 1, 2017 Gazprom Neft and "Yandex" signed the agreement on cooperation within which the oil company will use artificial intelligence and other IT developments together with the new partner.

Gazprom Neft, using technologies of the analysis of Big Data, machine learning and  artificial intelligence, will conduct work  in the field of drilling and  completion of wells, modeling of technology processes of oil processing  and also to optimize other production processes. Support in this project will be given by division of "Yandex" of Yandex Data Factory (YDF).

The companies also agreed about joint examination of technological solutions for the oil and gas industry and development of research and technology projects. Besides, the arrangement assumes training of employees for work in the sphere, new to them. A financial component and other details of the project are not disclosed.

Need of involvement in  development of new categories of stocks demands from  the oil companies of the organization of cross-functional interaction between experts of different fields of knowledge, the analysis of large volumes of the geological and  technical information — the First Deputy CEO of Gazprom Neft Vadim Yakovlev says. — The efficiency of our company  in many respects depends today on  ability to use modern information technological solutions. It is sure that    Gazprom Neft will find optimal answers to  the technology calls facing the company in cooperation with one of market leaders of digital technologies.

According to the chief executive of YDF Alexander Haytin, the oil and gas industry is one of the most perspective in terms of data analysis as in it huge arrays of information are saved up.^[1]
