Content

In September, 2017 the OSIsoft company announced that the OSyS company (Optimized Systems and Solutions) which specializes in providing SPPR (decision making support system) for monitoring and optimization of high-valuable assets uses PI System for predictive analytics.

Prerequisites of the Project

In the analysis of parameters of performance specialists of OSyS company faced what they had to set or too narrow boundary values, and then the number of notifications, or values of too broad range sharply increased, and then it turned out that values in the notification do not correspond to required limits. However technical means, knowledge and skills of the analysis helped them to create a failure signature for various data streams which can arrive from the equipment. But for effective work analysts need the maximum quantity of data from the most different sources. This approach will work, only if to change a method of interaction between the producer, service company and operators of the equipment. Just such business model was implemented using PI System of OSIsoft company. The cloud service of PI Cloud Connect became a core of a new information structure.

Project Results

Now, using the mechanism of the publication and a subscription, the staff of the different interested companies in a legal framework in real time can trace equipment parameters, redirect them each other, and, having applied individual methods, can take analytical information, for example, remaining balance of models, notifications, different data on value added, etc. Thus, all participants of a production process and service work with the same data array, creating network interaction and forming the connected supply chain (Connected Supply Chain).

The model of joint work is based on joint sorting of notifications, deployment of data and the general team of specialists. She uses the integrated infrastructure of data, open systems, scalable services, considers features of business processes and provides access to global training, transforming traditional operational models of production management. Thanks to Connected Supply Chain the predictive analytics provides exact and confident predictions with early detection, reliable diagnostics and the minimum false notifications.

Such analytics means:

  • Tracking of historical data from the moment of damage.
  • Identification and search of the connected thin dependences and functions integrated in Diagnostic network.
  • Consolidation of multiple parameters and characteristics for complete representation of a status of production.
  • Notification on the allowed level of reliability of notifications.

OSyS supports maintenance strategy on the basis of risk management, possible thanks to exact forecasts and profound analytics which can be received only during collective work of participants of a joint supply chain under control of PI Cloud Connect.

Being subsidiary company Rolls-Royce, OSyS carries out condition monitoring of engines within TotalCare service (a range of services of an after-sale service of clients of Rolls-Royce, the long-term agreement about support which includes services in maintenance and support of flights, providing spare parts, services in repair of the equipment, repair of components, data management, leasing of the equipment and property management). One of program items of TotalCare is condition monitoring of the engine (Engine Health Monitoring). Using onboard sensors permanent observation of operability of tens of thousands of engines more than 80 clients who annually make about 14 million flights a year is made for record of keyword technical parameters and direct satellite channels. OSyS using PI System constantly analyzes and processes data retrieveds, predicts a status of engines for search of the equipment which parameters deviated permissible values. OSyS is also engaged in control of fuel consumption, monitoring of emissions and optimization of washing of the engine. Risk management allows OSyS to plan activities for a MRO, to minimize damages, to optimize routes and to prolong service life of engines.

Application of Microsoft Azure

Since 2016 as the main tool for storage, processing and data analysis the cloud platform of Microsoft Azure is used. Different cloud services of Microsoft Azure helped to optimize the solution of important tasks:

  • A broad set of services of set, Microsoft Cortana Intelligence Suite – IoT Hub, Event Hub for global data collection from different sources in real time,
  • Data Factory for data translation,
  • Stream Analytics for stream data analysis,
  • Azure Machine Learning for implementation of predictive analytics,
  • Azure HDInsight for cluster processing of Big Data,
  • PowerBI for display and data analysis,
  • various services of data storage, such as Azure Blob Storage, Azure Database, CosmosDB, allowed to implement the required functionality of the solution.

The cloud platform of Microsoft Azure is also one of principal components of the solution PI Cloud Connect that allows OSyS to gain synergy effect.
