Honeywell: Experion Local Control Network (LCN)

Experion Local Control Network (LCN) allows to perform step-by-step upgrade of outdated management systems of former generation of Total Plant Solution (TPS) for smooth and safe integration with an APCS of Experion PKS.

2017: Announcement

On September 27, 2017 Honeywell announced division "Industrial automation" release of the solution Experion Local Control Network (LCN) which allows industrial enterprises where outdated management systems are used, to gradually upgrade them by transfer to modern technologies, effectively using capital investments in the available automation equipment.^[1]

Users of TPS even more often face problems of observance of the regulatory requirements connected with safety rules and complication of support of these systems. The solution Experion LCN contains the functions and tools based on standards for observance of regulatory requirements and also provides integration, since the level of business operations and finishing with transactions at the level of KIP (instrumentations) and production.

The phased transition offered Honeywell on Experion LCN without stopping of production provides upgrade of infrastructure of a management system and support of industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The existing strategy of management, connection to KIP, applications, archives and art works can be saved that will allow users to focus on optimization of especially important indicators.

Thanks to the infrastructure checked by time on the basis of the developed Honeywell of a failsafe Ethernet network (FTE), the bridge based on Experion LCN will provide connection of the Experion system to the classical network of management based on coaxial connections. After creation of this bridge coaxial connections of local network of management can be taken out of service gradually. Instead of hardware connection with each Experion TPS node virtualization requires only one reserved Experion LCN connection.

In general the solution of Honeywell for upgrade of TPS is designed to reduce the number of interruptions of production operations, to achieve the general coordination and to optimize lifecycle. After upgrade the management system will be able to use the general human-computer interface (HCI) and the unified physical network of management, and integration and expansion of control devices will become simpler due to use of controllers and security systems of Experion PKS of the last generation. Management tools and functions of Experion PKS controllers will in addition allow to optimize production transactions.
