The management system for operation of Li-ion rechargeable batteries of unmanned aerial vehicles is designed to increase safety of use of the pilotless equipment and to reduce the cost of its service.

Functions

The management system for work of joint stock bank constantly controls temperature, tension on battery cells (blocks of elements). Before flight she automatically holds system testing of a power supply and only after that gives a signal to inclusion of joint stock bank for ensuring engine start and a power supply of onboard consumers with the electric power of a direct current. At an exit of parameters of joint stock bank for operational constraints (on tension, temperature, etc.) a system gives a signal on disconnection of joint stock bank from power buses. At undervoltage of the main source of current — the generator and also in emergency situations a system gives a signal on inclusion of joint stock bank and the battery works as a source of electrical energy.

Components

The control system of joint stock bank consists of the general voltmeter, the current sensor, the aviation interface, control block of switching and measurements of parameters for seven sections (on structure of Li-ion of the battery: each section Li-ion joint stock bank has voltage of 4.1 volts, seven sections totally have voltage of 28.7 volts that conforms to the aviation standard of tension of a board in 27 volts), each of which is equipped with the separate temperature sensor and the voltmeter. Aviation the interface performs a transmission function of telemetered informations about a status of joint stock bank in an UAV management system. The general voltmeter measures tension of a vehicle network and automatically makes the decision to connect the battery to an onboard system or to disconnect.

2017: Announcement

The Russian Space Systems holding (RKS, is included into Roskosmos state corporation) announced on November 3, 2017 creation of a management system for operation of Li-ion rechargeable batteries (joint stock bank) of the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). As envisioned by RKS, its application will increase security of the pilotless equipment in difficult conditions, will reduce the cost of its service and will increase the mass of payload. A system is completely executed on the Russian element base.

Appointment

A system is intended for management Russian aviation Li-ion joint stock banks of the next generation (Li-ion). These batteries of the UAVs of nickel joint stock banks which are more than 6 times easier used during creation, but are more exacting to operating conditions. Increase in a charge current can lead to ignition of JSB Li-ion, and complete discharging — to put out of action. Development of RKS allows to eliminate these defects. The management system for a power supply controls all parameters of joint stock bank and automatically reacts, preventing emergence of the situations reducing its resource and reliability.

All saw ignitions of the Tesla cars. Unfortunately, it is a reverse side of efficiency of Li-ion of accumulators. The task not to allow anything similar at application of this type of joint stock bank in the domestic aviation industry was set for us. We carried out this task — any emergency situations onboard connected with operating conditions of joint stock bank are completely excluded — the head of department of development of onboard and land information telemetering devices and the systems "Scientific and Production Association of the Measuring Equipment" (NPO IT, is included into RKS) Sergey Shikhov claims.

Payload gain

The competitiveness of the UAV directly depends on application of modern joint stock banks. Than more payload can take the device at comparable flight technical characteristics, it is more demanded by that in the market. For comparison, weight domestic nickel joint stock bank for one of the Russian UAVs reaches 44 kg, Li-ion the accumulator of similar capacity and power together with the management system developed in RKS weighs about 7 kg. Thus that it is necessary for the midsize office of such joint stock banks two, alternation of generations of joint stock bank gives a gain of mass of payload in 74 kg. For the device of this class — a huge indicator.

Objectives

From the very beginning of the project on creation of a management system of joint stock bank of the next generation of RKS coordinates works with the Russian private and state aviation design offices and the plants. The management system of joint stock bank is going to be applied at upgrade existing and creation of new Russian unmanned aerial vehicles.
