The German army buys 142 portable ultrasonography offices of Philips for rescue operations

On November 15, 2017 it became known of purchase by the armed forces (AF) of Germany of the portable diagnostic Philips Lumify ultrasonography system. The device, compatible to the tablet, is supposed to be used as normal equipment when rendering the emergency help and rescue operations, HCB News reports.[1]

In an interview to the edition the representative of Philips Healthcare Ultrasound Randy Hamlin noted exclusive image quality of Lumify, the ultraportable size, reliability and flexibility of a system. Also in Philips took care of the most trouble-free operation of the device, having provided a possibility of replacement of the accumulator in the tablet delivered with it and an USB cable which can also be replaced easily. In addition to mobile application for work with Lumify on the tablet medical information, including recommendations and training materials on ultrasonography diagnostics is loaded.

By request of AF of Germany, the Lumify systems will be delivered in transport containers or in special transport backpacks. Three types of the ultrasonography sensors — convex C5-2, linear L12-4 and sector S4-1, the tablet in the protected execution and all necessary supplies, such as gel for ultrasonography are included in the package.

The military organizations can have a very different range of diagnostic needs, from rendering the emergency medical care before carrying out inspection at the patient's bed in clinic. Thanks to three types of the Lumify ultrasonography sensors will allow to satisfy all these requirements — Hamlin said.

Armed forces of Germany ordered 142 specialized sets of Philips Lumify with a complete packet of service maintenance. According to information on the website of the producer, the device is on sale by the principle of a monthly subscription. The cost of the set including the Lumify ultrasonography sensor, the Lumify cloud applicaion for Android, the program of software updating a guarantee of the producer and access to Philips services for 1 year is $2388.[2]

As told TAdviser in Philips, by November, 2017 the Lumify system is registered by Russia and will be available on sale in the Russian market since March of the 2018th.
