Atos upgraded the SAP HANA platform for Norilsk Nickel using the Bull servers

On November 27, 2018 the Atos company reported that it under the technology Bull brand performed supply of equipment in Norilsk Nickel (Norilsk Nickel). According to the company, thanks to INTACT system integrator the hardware and software system was put into operation in the shortest possible time.

Prerequisites

Premises of updating of an IT complex were growth of needs for computing resources and volumes of data warehouses for ensuring work of crucial business applications and projects on the SAP HANA platform.

Project Tasks

There was a task to expand the existing landscape regarding computing powers and to provide high availability of the platform, despite hardware constraints. The direction of development of IT infrastructure of Norilsk Nickel made the decision to use hybrid technologies.

Project Progress

The project solution was proposed by Atos and INTACT companies. The complex consists of two rack servers Bull Bullion S8 a part of which the storage system is. Such approach gave opportunities for expansion and support of further growth. The equipment was supplied as SAP HANA appliance. Also the project provides capacities for ensuring availability, testing and development for the SAP HANA platform: the Bull Bullion S8 server and two Bull Bullion S6 servers from the uniform hybrid connected to them storage system. The equipment was supplied as Tailored Data Center Integration.

Specialists of INTACT together with IT department of Norilsk Nickel made installation of a complex of servers and DWH in racks with connection them to the available infrastructure of DPC and also the set of the work documentation on integration of the specified decision without interruption of services is developed. The volume of computing powers and resources of data storage was as a result increased. Upgrade increased the speed of operation of applications of a SAP landscape.

Project Results

The implemented solution provides protection of investments for a segment of testing and development as it can be scaled due to expansion of the Bullion servers of versions of S6 to S8 and S8 to S10, S12, S14 or S16, the equipped 10-16 CCPs respectively, without replacement of the available computing powers.

The Bull servers came to the Russian market not so long ago, and for November, 2018 this project – the first installation for use of SAP HANA in Russia. Roman Gots, the director of the department of Big Data and security of Atos in Russia

For November, 2018 use of high-performance platforms for storage and data processing, including SAP HANA, is a serious trend which in the medium term will only amplify. 2017

In October, 2017 Norilsk Nickel reported that it selected INTACT as the supplier of the server hardware for placement of a management system for the SAP HANA database and rendering services in installation and setup of this equipment on company platforms. INTACT won the tender, thanks to cooperation with the Bull company which developed optimal solutions, allowing to reduce costs on the IT park in large and medium-sized enterprises. The project for PJSC Norilsk Nickel MMC will be complete at the beginning of 2018.
