2017: Avaya ERS 5000 и 5600

A series of the routing Avaya ERS 5000 switches - includes an initial number of models 5500 and model 5600. All of them completely support stacking and provide excellent protection of investments and also direct access to the most modern and high-quality equipment.

February 28, 2018. In switches of this series the advanced solution for failsafe stacking — "the stekiruyemy chassis" Avaya is used. Thanks to it these devices, only of offered in the market, allow to break a terabit barrier of stack capacity.

Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 5000 Series (2018)

ERS 5510-24T – can be used in high-performance wiring closets with a possibility of horizontal stacking as the upper switch in a rack (top-of-rack switch). This model intended for systems with rather low density of ports is equipped with 24 ports 10/100/1000, including two ports uplink 1000BASE-X SFP.

ERS 5510-48T – model supports 48 at the same time working network interfaces: 48 ports 10/100/1000, including two ports uplink 1000BASE-X SFP. It can be used at the mode of high density in high-performance wiring closets or at horizontal stacking as the upper switch in a rack in data centers.

ERS 5520-24T-PWR – optimum is suitable for use in high-performance convergent wiring closets. With 24 Power-over-Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports (802.3af), including four ports uplink 1000BASE-X SFP, the switch is suitable for systems with rather low density of ports.

ERS 5520-48T-PWR – this model is suitable for installation in high-performance convergent wiring closets with a high density of ports. There are 48 at the same time working network interfaces: 48 Power-over-Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports, including four ports uplink 1000BASE-X SFP.

ERS 5530-24TFD – can be used at aggregation of data centers or as a core of small network. Equipped with 24 ports 10/100/1000, including twelve combined with 1000BASE-X SFP, and two ports 10GBASE-X XFP, it represents the universal and powerful platform for aggregation. As well as all models of row 5500, it can work with external reserve power capability and is completely compatible for stacking to models 5600.

ERS 5632FD – can be used in the aggregated configurations of data centers or as a core of small network, has 32 at the same time working network interfaces: 24 ports 1000BASE-X SFP and also connectivity 10GBASE-X XFP. As well as all models 5600, model 5632FD supports hot swap of power sources and it is completely compatible for stacking to models 5500.

ERS 5650TD – having 48 ports 10/100/1000 and two ports 10GBASE-X XFP, this model can be used in high-performance wiring closets or in data centers with a possibility of horizontal stacking as the upper switch in a rack. As well as all models 5600, this model supports hot swap of the power source that provides the increased fault tolerance.

ERS 5650TD-PWR – supports 50 at the same time working network interfaces: 48 Power-over-Ethernet 10/100/1000 802.3af ports and also the connectivity of two ports 10GBASE-X XFP supports. This model is an optimal solution for systems with a high density of ports and is suitable for use in wiring closets of high-performance convergent networks. As well as all models 5600, this model supports hot swap of the power source that provides the increased fault tolerance.

ERS 5698TFD – is expected installation in high-performance wiring closets with a high density of ports. Network interfaces: 96 ports 10/100/1000, including six ports 100/1000BASE-X SFP, and two ports 10GBASE-X XFP. It is the most high-performance model in this series differing in the beneficial price and low power consumption. As well as all models 5600, this model supports hot swap of the power source that provides the increased fault tolerance.

ERS 5698TFD-PWR – this model of the switch has 98 at the same time working network interfaces: 96 Power-over-Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports (802.3af), including six ports 1000BASE-X SFP, and two ports 10GBASE-X XFP. Is suitable for installation in high-performance convergent wiring closets with a high density of ports. 5698TFD-PWR differs in the beneficial price and low power consumption; supports hot swap of the power source that provides the increased fault tolerance.

2011: Avaya ERS 4500

On November 17, 2011 it became known that Avaya updates a line of the switches of series 4000. A new series of the ERS switches (Ethernet Routing Switch) 4000 is developed for the aid to the enterprises for optimization of networks at the organization of joint work and simplification of convergence of a voice, video and data. One of new key features – broad banding of transmission in the line from 320 GB / with up to 384 GB / page.

At the same time Avaya released the new software including along with other functionality, support of PoE technology (power supply through Ethernet) and PoE +.

New switches are developed compatible to VENA (Virtual Enterprise Network Architecture) from Avaya. This project was begun a year ago, its purpose – using virtualization to provide to users optimization of networks for business applications and services. VENA represents the program addition supporting the new IEEE 802.1AQ SPB standard (Shortest Path Bridging is the shortest connection of the bridge) for creation of several active ways in a switching matrix.

Though SPB is not on sale as it would be desirable, nevertheless, in Avaya say that the VENA components have demand at clients. "Our long-term strategy is successful so we will continue its implementation, - Jean Turgeon, the CEO of division of Avaya Networking told. - Many customers purchased the Avaya switches on the basis of VENA. Clients like our way, and we have real implementations".

Zeus Kerravala, the head of ZK Research, considers that, despite statements of the company, and other hardware new products, precedents which will show quantitative values or operational motions are necessary for VENA. "Proofs: here what is important for the most part of the industry now, - he told. – To what number of the actual deployments at customers can someone point? All this theory".

Now VENA competes with other architectural concepts of virtualization of networks from Cisco, Brocade, HP, Dell, IBM, Extreme, Enterasys, Alcatel-Lucent and others.

New products of the company will be available at the end of November, 2011 at the price from $3295 in a line of ERS 4500 and from $5295 to ERS 4800.

Avaya ERS4500 switch

The routing Ethernet 4500 switch of a series (ERS 4500) differs in unique fault-free expansibility, switching on the second level and dynamic RIP-and OSPF routing on the third level and also various technical capabilities of a combination of different types of communication. For this reason the ERS 4500 switch offers such opportunities of expansion and fault tolerance which are required for work in the corporate networks focused on the solution of specific objectives today and also provides the general decrease in operating costs. Besides, the ERS 4500 model has energy consumption 40% less, than similar products of competitors thanks to what is very profitable acquisition.

Reservation of power supply

Adding of the device of back supply of Avaya RPS 15 allows to provide the ERS 4500 switch with the stable, redundant power supply critically necessary for work of modern network environments with high readiness for the solution of responsible tasks. On the RPS 15 chassis it is possible to place to three modules of power supply power on 600 W. Each module is capable to support operation of one ERS 4500 switch with function of a power supply on network (PoE) or to four switches without support of PoE.1

Installation in networks with convergence is considerably simplified due to use of dynamic power management of ports with PoE, diversities of loading and the function of reservation of a power supply distinguishing the Avaya RPS 15 device. The combination of this functionality was projected in such a way that adding of devices which operation requires PoE happened with hardly any trouble at all.
