Azure Service Fabric is the platform of distributed systems which gives the chance to pack and unroll scalable microservices and containers and also to manage them.  Thanks to this solution developers and administrators can focus on implementation of crucial and resource-intensive workloads instead of spending forces for the solution of complex problems with infrastructure.  The platform is intended for creation of own cloud services of any size with a scaling option to hundreds and even thousands of virtual machines.

Service Fabric provides a basis for infrastructure Azure and other applications Skype for Business, it seems Intune, Azure Event Hubs, Azure Data Factory Azure Cosmos DB Azure SQL Database, Dynamics 365 and Cortana.

2018: Opening of source codes

In March, 2018 Microsoft opened initial the Service Fabric codes. The company transfers development of the platform to GitHub service, but  is going to retain control over a product — at least, for some time.

Microsoft transferred Service Fabric to Open Source under the license MIT. It was preceded by disclosure in 2017 of source codes of some components of the platform among which — Reliable Services, Reliable Actors and library of integration ASP.NET Core. Now the company is going to make Service Fabric opened all computing environment and also the assembly environment for Linux and  Windows.

The Service Fabric platform began to be used as  the GitHub project, however Microsoft continues support of all products, related.

We actively invest in this project and we want that it grew — said in Microsoft, having added that in the future the company can "offer" Service Fabric to community of developers of freely distributed software.[1]
