Virtual Edge Platform (VEP) is family of virtual boundary platforms, the specialized general subscriber purpose equipment for virtual networks and the program configured environments.
2018: Announcement of family of platforms
The company Dell EMC at the end of March, 2018 provided Virtual Edge Platform (VEP) — family of solutions SD-WAN (software-defined networks of WAN) in which it is applied processor Intel Xeon D-2100. Systems are designed to help the enterprises to accelerate digital transformation by connection of the boundary equipment of corporate network to to cloud through the general subscriber purpose equipment (uCPE).
As the main scenario of use Dell EMC VEP provides access to network through SD-WAN. The virtualized solutions are designed to improve or force out expensive hardware with the fixed functionality.
The Dell EMC VEP4600 platform constructed using the optimized intellectual functions for network virtualization and the program configured architecture represents the open platform based on architecture of Intel for simultaneous support of several virtual network functions (Virtual Network Function, VNF). It is possible to consolidate numerous proprietary physical devices in one this solution uCPE, maintaining necessary performance levels. Modular construction provides space for growth with a possibility of expansion from the front panel therefore it is easy to upgrade or service the platform in field conditions as required.
VEP 4600 is equipped with processors of the Intel Xeon D-2100 series with Intel QuickAssist technology (Intel of QAT) and a set of development of Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK). These functions help to optimize computing resources and to cope with growth of loadings at security gain.
Performance, power and form factor of the Intel Xeon D-2100 family were optimized for increase "productivities per watt" for SD-WAN and uCPE. More than 1.5-fold performance improvement of the processor is as a result provided, to two times processing of packets is accelerated, capacity of memory and to four times — storage capacity is twice increased, specified in Dell EMC. These processors support complex processing of packets and other horizontally scalable workloads with high availability and a low delay.
In general, as noted, the energy efficient Dell EMC VEP4600 platform develops the initiative of Dell EMC Open Networking offering customers opportunities of the choice and protection of the investments. Dell EMC VEP provides performance, programmability and the accelerated providing new services for fast adaptation to such requirements as routing, protection by the firewall (FW) and the deep analysis of packets (DPI).
To help service providers to accelerate entry into the market with new services, and to the enterprises — to simplify deployment, Dell EMC proposes three checked validirovanny solutions using VEP4600. These solutions with previously checked and integrated configurations integrating infrastructure and support services of Dell EMC with the software of SD-WAN from Silver Peak Systems, VeloCloud Networks and Versa Networks give opportunities to "turnkey" SD-WAN. Adapted and checked for compliance to the Dell EMC standards, they allow clients to unroll quickly economic solutions of SD-WAN or the managed services.
Deliveries of Dell EMC VEP4600 will begin in the second quarter 2018.
